I have a john deere 1010 .The clutch would not disengage. I had a new clutch installed and now it"s doing the same thing. It seems as if I start it every week or so , the clutch is o.k. but if it sits for a month the pressure plate seems to rust and will not disengage.Any ideas? I"ve tried pushing against a tree and starting it in gear, which works sometimes but not always.Thanks...

I think we have solved the sticking clutch plate problem on my John Deere 1010.First,here is how you can unstick thr clutch disc without tearing the tractor in half.Drill a 1/2" or so hole in the bell housing at about 2:00 o"clock.Open the inspection plate hole and place a light inside the bell housing so you can see the clutch.Take a long steel bar or a large screwdriver that is already ruined, place it through the hole you drilled, place it on the clutch disc and whack it several times[hard].This released the apparently rusted disc from the flywheel. Now,for the long term solution[I hope].My bell housing had a puddle of water in it, which kept everything rusty.I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom of the bell housing for the water to drain out.SO FAR , the clutch is not sticking.

Just a possible suggestion. When I've had a problem like this in the past, its ended up being some type of fractured clutch linkage or splintered clutch shaft. Sometimes it's very difficult to see.

Did you check splines on shaft ??? Bad wear can keep disc from sliding freely when you disengage clutch..... ..

Come to think of it when you reminded me. Has that clutch been lubed as per the operators manuals instructions?

How about storing the tractor with a stick holding the clutch pedal partly down?
Is the environment damp? Around here it's humid enough to rust an unused plough orange in three days. Yet we have clutches not sticking in tractors stored over the winter.
