Have you ever put transmission fluid in your diesel fuel?

Why not use a diesel fuel additive made just for the job? Shell makes a Shell Rotells DFA. Another brand has Power Service in the name, but with one other word I can't remember. These additives cost about $5 for a quart, which treats from 50 to 100 gallons of fuel. Raises Cetane, dispurses water, lubs pump, cleans injectors, etc. etc. There are several formulas in the APS brand. I have used it in every drop of diesel burned for years and years; knock on wood - have NEVER had to replace and injector, rebuild a pump, etc.

Hi Tom,

I did some fuel mileage testing on PSwb and lost 1mpg and lost 1.5mpg using PSgb (Power Service grey bottle) on my PSD.

However that wasn't true of PSwb about 15yrs ago as I used it in my VW diesel and there it increased fuel mileage alot, from 36mpg to 52mpg.

I had a old PS container so I comparred and there was a difference so I did some research. About 1999 PS was refromulated for whatever reason and the container size shrunk, 3qts to 1gal.

ATF doesn't loose fuel mileage and is cheap, $1qt and does twice the job as PS for luberication, in fact I couldn't tell any difference in injector noise with PSwb/gb but I sure can with ATF.

Do a small test. Run pure (no additives) #2D for a couple tanks, then add ATF type F at 1qt/100gal then come back and tell me your opinion. I would interested to here it.

Hey T_Bone,

Very interesting. Would be hard for me to run a good test, since I was talking about my 2 trators. My old truck is just a gasser.

When are you coming through my area. I am just off I-20 about 30 miles West of Fort Worth, at Weatherford, TX. Maybe you could pull a coffee stop just off the interstate and I could meet you. I have been reading your posts for a long time now, and agree with you on nearly everything, and it would be nice to buy you a dinner and/or coffee. my email is tom-fletcher@att.net

Have never seen it in print, but have heard from several sources that GM recommended Dextron as the only diesel fuel additive. I"ve used it from time to time with apparently no ill effects. Apparently lubes the injector pump.

Hey Ray, told the wife to look for YOUR wife at the Charlotte double show last weekend. Told her to tell her to tell you "hi" from me. Don't know if she did or not but later she did talk to my daughter about her show team. Ask her if she knows the girl who has the team of 9 sandies. Curious if she remembers....BTW, where you been hiding lately? Shoot me an email.

Dave

Have used it in farm tractors for many years; shop foreman (with many, many years experience)at local dealer got me started using it in place of fuel conditioner. I've just always added a half-pint or so to the tractor tank..... .every 3rd or 4th tank of fuel or whenever I think of it. I don't use it in my pick-up (Cummins) because the operator's manual specifically says not to add conditioners..... ..... ..

Hi Sam,

I use ATF type F, 1qt/100gal #2D in my 02 F350 PSD for the past 15k miles. I only have 19k on the truck. It imeaditly quitens the injector noise by half on my PSD.

I could care less what Ford says as it my money and I want 500k plus out of my injectors. If I would take it in for a injector warranty repair, Ford would just tell me the injector damage was caused by water, so no warranty.

I also quad filter my fuel, once at the fuel stop pump, twice at my aux fuel tank, 10micron and 2 micron, then the factory installed final filter. I get sediment in the 10micron filter bowel but not the 2micron filter.

I ran type F in a VW diesel for 300k miles without any problems.
