Ferguson F-40 questions

I'm gonna check on a F-40 I found for sale. What hp is this? It's surface rusty, but all there, tires are decent. What price range? (I'm in MI, don't know how much locatioin affects price on this one). Also, I see the PTO lever has a "ground pto" setting. What's this? I figured out the "neutral" and "engine pto" on my own (grin), but I haven't seen the "ground pto" one before.

Thanks for your time,
Anthony.

The horsepower would be around 35hp. I would think in average condition it would go for somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000. Also a premium for PS or hydraulic remote may come into play.

"Gropund speed PTO" was one of those features that never really caught on. Ferguson (and then MASSEY Ferguson) had a few implements that were pto driven, that would operate relative to the tractors ground speed. (hay rake, manure spreader, ect...)

That is a good old tractor. It's essentially the same as a Massey Ferguson 50. They were made from mid-1956, until mid 1957, after the Massey Harris/ Ferguson merger, and BEFORE the name consolidation.

I've got an F-40, and an MF 50 that were original "family owned tractors" (F-40/uncle, MF 50/dad)

In rough but running condition, they sell for $3000 and up, to mint at around $5000 in this area. EXTREMELY popular tractor in this area.

My recollection is that there was also a Massey-Harris "50"; that the F "40", M-F "50" and M-H "50" were all essentially the same tractor..... .

That buyer needs to come see me..... He could take home a mint restoration for considerably less than $15,500..... . That'll buy you three of 'em down here....

I haven't reached the owner yet, so haven't heard it run/operate. I'd assume all's well with it, as this guy usually has stuff out for sale. However, I did notice some of the wiring under the dash had been wrapped in duck tape. A short, or just deteriorating insulation? I wonder...
