I have an International 240. When it was cold, it would run around 45 to 50 psi. Once it would warm up, the oil pressure would drop down to 10 or 0 depending on how long it ran. I pulled off the oil pan and checked the oil pump cover. Some of the gasket was missing and the cover was wurped. So I had that machined down and put in a new spring, gasket, and valve and now it runs around 50 when its cold and no lower then 20 to 25 when running at more then an idle. I know that the crank needs turned but I dont' have the time or tools to do it. Something you might check. I dont' know if your tractor is anything like that but just an idea. Good luck

Overhaul it before you ruin the crankshaft.

Hi Joe,

No amount of changing oil weights, changing gauges, putting on more band-aids, Ace Wraps, Lip Balm or adding magic fairy dust is gonna change the fact.

If the oil pressure is dropping to 5 lbs when it comes up to temp, that engine is screamin' at you that it has excessive oil clearances.

Also, I sometimes wonder if/when a feller gets to this point where he has to open 'er up for a set of bearings, then maybe he would be wiser to just go all the way and overhaul the derned old thing? 'Cause, the longer a guy runs it, the better the chances become of ruining that crankshaft.

Dunno Pard, she don't sound good; good luck with 'er. :>(

First off it was designed for stright 30 high detergant and if you have been running a 10-40 then it may be to late and will need new cam bearings and mains and rods and probably and crank regrind. As car oil is not for a working diesel or any indurstral engine i don't care what you do with it .

You might be a tractor vet but I don't think I would want you around my tractor (or my horse). Are you serious in suggesting that running 10w40 in his diesel caused his engine to wear out?

First off what is the tractor?? What type of oil are you running, if its a muti weight that can be your problem. I'd try say a 40W oil and see what happens. Has it always been that way or did it just start doing that?

Ok, I have to ask this....have you put another guage on it to eliminate the possibility of a faulty guage? If you"re running a multi oil in it and it makes that much difference between cold and warm, I"d check the guage first. I have found that just because the guage works, does"nt allways mean it works proper.

I'd give a 40W stright weight oil a try, it will not fix the problem but will help the preassure. A lot of old tractors have low preassures like that and run fine for years. The problem could be a number of things main bears, cam bearing, weak oil pump. But you still may not have a big problem either. I have one tractor that I ran for years with little to no oil preassure and I never had any problems out of it. I did change the engine in it a couple months ago because it was getting weak also but I'm sure it would still run if I put it back in.

By the way I always use valvoline raceing oil in my tractors, I figure if it was made for a race car it would be more the enough for an old tractor. And when you have as many tractors as I have and never had an oil related brake down, I'll keep on useing it. You can get it in 30,40,50,or 60 weight. For you if you don't plan to use it much in the winter I'd go with the 50weight

The last septic system I put in I made the field line about 200 feet long with a dry well at the end. Has to be below frost line, I dig it about 2 foot deeper then frost line, fill in about 18 inch of gravel, lay pipe fill in with another 18inches. Cover that with plastic and then fill in the drit on top of that. I have a 500 gal. tank and its been in since 1992 and have never had any problems. The dry well at the end of the line is a hole about 18 feet deep plastic over the top of the gravel and then dirt.
