On this tractor, the fan assembly has, what i believe to be a "self-lubricating" housing the fan is mounted to. There is a small plug that is removable for filling the housing with gear oil or grease..(recomended type..?) On the rear of this assembly, just in front of where the shaft mounts to its seat, the seal leaks. Is there a replacement seal for this housing..?

Did you get the spun distributor back into position and the tractor running again?

I have a 47 avery V, same thing... The manual says no more than 1/2 full with same oil as engine. If you over fill it will ruin the seal and the entire unit is in need of replacement. Mine had some one install a greese zerk and use greese. There is no rust on my v since it has 300# of greese all over it. I will be takeing mine appart and seeing what I can do.

lol...thanks Vince,..i'll take that into consideration,...although, i think i'm in need of a new seal anyway...i might try a heavier grease in it first to see if that helps. My trouble now is timing. Seems the dist. lock-down bolt turned on me and now i can't hit the right spot. Another member instructed me how to find TDC and i'm gonna give it a whirl. If you know of any sort of seal that might work on the fan assy,..gimme a buzz back, woulda ya..?

thanks again
Dan

I'm not sure of the Moline, but typically, these fan hubs used the same oil as the engine crankcase, and there is probably NO seal.

There's a certain position you rotate the fan to, (so the fill plug is below the level where it's leaking at the shaft), and then you use a pump oil can to squirt in oil to the level of the plug.

Hopefully, someone with the correct owner's manual can be more specific!

hi Bob,

Thanks for the valuable info. It makes good sense. I more than likely filled it way to much. Is it true that if it's over-filled, it could cause problems..?

Dan
