On my Ford 4000 I have Alliance, 8 lug wheel, with 16.9 14-38 agri tires. My 3-point hitch is to high for most of my equipment. I would like to go to a smaller turf tire to lower my tractor 10" or so. Is there any help with sugestions? Peter

I have a complete set of (4) 9.5 X 24 dual turf tires and the dual wheel adapters. Just removed from a Ford 2000. Also (2) 13" front tires. Tires and rims are very fresh w/ no rot. Located in Ct. My e-mail is open.

A 4000 should if I remember right have a set of 13.6 or 14.9 by 28 tires not 38s and thats probably where your problem is. I'd find a set of 28 rims for it

38" wheels were optional on 3 cylinder 4000s, but 16.9 tires are about 3 sizes too big.

I have a 4600 built in Belgium. It came from Holland and has 13.6X38 radials. The wheels are hughe and the rubber part is very thin (kinda like the Ford n series front wheel with a 19" wheel and a 4" wide tire...all metal and no rubber). Makes it nice when you have to re-rubber however.

I think if you put standard American tires on these 38" wheels the tractor would be way off the ground.

I agree that if you are putting normally available rubber on (in the US) that you need to reduce the wheel diameter cause the rubber adds so much to the overall diameter.

Other thought is to get a different drawbar. I took the drawbar off my MF 35 cause I didn't need it and put it on the 4600 cause it came without one. It is offset and you can pick up 3 or so inches that way.

Just happen to have a Ford 4000 spec sheet in front of me and it says that ground clearance under the tranny housing is supposed to be 17.3 inches. Height to top of steering wheel, 63, over the hood, 57.5. Might give you an idea as to where you are.

Mark
