What make and model of modern tractors would be the best replacement for a Farmall Cub? Specifically for a truck garden operation or a strawberry patch? Easy.

a rebuilt cub or even an old cub that still runs.
There is no equal. you can spend 15000 then you will get a new diesel tractor with plastic parts, electroniocs, etc. that will not be as easy to maintain.
Run

My dad has a truck farm in PA and has a cub and A for cultivating and pulling a transplanter. Kubota and John Deere both made an offset tractor, but they are larger like a Farmall A. A farmall Cub is tough to beat, if you need a good one maybe look into one of the later models, or look into getting an older one rebuilt. There are a ton of attachments available for cubs.

Well for a more modern replacemend if you will. I reccament a JD 900 HC or an IH 274 Diesel. The 274 is an offset tractor made by IH in the 80s. It has styling like the 86 series. There may not be many around but I've seen them for sale here and there. The JD is a model 900 HC. It too is an offset tractor and a diesel.

These tractors have perhaps twice the hp and physically are the size of a Farmall A or Super A. They have modern hydrolics, attachments like listers and cultivators, planters and plows etc. I would estimate one would run you $5,000-$7,500.

Truth is, a reconditioned Farmall Cub is just as good as anything else you could buy that might be 20 years newer. Cubs are simpler to work on, cost a lot less. Their attachments are far easier to come by as well. So if you have a cub, keep her.

Hope this helps

The little truck farms around here are either using hand labor or little Kubotas. One that went out of business a couple years ago was still using a Cub, a hi-crop Cub, a Super A, a 100 and a 140. Their Allis G was broke down, but they had used that previously. That's on a 150 acre truck farm. Their heavy tillage every spring was either contracted out to the neigbor across the street or they used a big (70's vintage) Case, usually a combination of the two.

I ditto Nebraska Cowman. If you want to see the current replacement for the Allis G just go to the Saukville Tractor website. Just be sure you are sitting down when you click on the prices.

They were still building the Cub in 1977. That sounds like a modern tractor to me. Try to find one. I doubt there is anything else close unless maybe you want a diesel conversion Allis Chalmers G.
