Tractor Quits After 20 Seconds

I have been battling with this for 2 years. I have a 1969 MM M670 Super gasoline tractor. First, tractor would not run smoothly when placed under load. Some of the fixes called for cleaning fuel tank, filter, fuel lines & carburator. This has all been done. Some of the fixes called for a new coil, points, condenser, spark plugs. This has all been done. Carburator removed, cleaned and new kit replaced. After putting the carburator back on, I now have the following problem: The tractor will start right up, ONLY as long as I have the choke pulled all the way out (closed)and the throttle more than half-way open. Try to push the choke in, it dies immediately. Leave the choke pulled out, the tractor runs for approximately 15-20 seconds, then dies. It sputters to a stop, but does so quickly. I can repeat this procedure over and over. When I am finished, gasoline is running out of the bottom of the carburator! For those 20 seconds, that tractor sounds GREAT, but it just doesn't last. I have adjusted the carburator until I am blue in the face, nothing works. I have now put two different coils on, both with the same results.

I know I have posted this question previously, but I am not having any luck with the suggestions that have been made. I am open to ALL suggestions and welcome your thoughts. This is driving me absolutely CRAZY! Please help!!

You need to go through the carb again. Could also be an intake leak, but it"s something that"s causing the air/fuel mix to be wrong. Maybe start proving the problem instead of putting parts in it. Doesn"t run without the choke means it isn"t getting fuel in the right amount.

Even though I might be WAY off base here, just a thought because I recently dealt with something similar on my truck. Try taking the muffler off and see if it runs any better. Had an Explorer that was doing something similar and it was a partially plugged exhaust system. Ran like a champ after we replaced the offending componaents. Seemed it was building too much back pressure and would just quite running. Wait a few seconds and it would start right back up.

I might sound stupid here but my uncle had a similar problem and it was the gas cap on the tank. The vent was plugged causing it to vacuum and stop fuel from going anywhere. just a though. Steve

Hey I didn't think about that one and we had a JD 630 doing that too. Messed with everything and finally figured it out one day when it dies and the fuel line was flatand the settling bowl was empty, opened the gas cap and it ran fine.

Carb.....you didn"t get it clean....the low speed circuit is still clogged. The high speed seems ok. Do a compression check on that engine.

Might try checking the carb again and making sure that all of the holes and things are clear. It doesn"t take but one piece of trash to mess it all up. Also check the float level and make sure it is right, might be cutting off the fuel early then opening back up as it dies. WE had a M-H Pony doing that and we wound up going through the carb 3 times before it got all clean.

One other thing. check and make darn sure there are no kinks in your fule line, been there done that one too.....

Check float level or float not freely moving.
