Ever since the duck and geese (wild ones) found the water on our place in the wet years, the raccoon population continues to grow. Even though we don't have any trees adjacent to the house, at least one female has scaled the brick wall and pulled of a piece of aluminium sofet and now refuses to leave, even to eat. I'm looking for ideas on getting her out. I don't think she has young ones yet
Any suggestions?????

Recently noticed a piece of soffit was off on my barn. Started to fix it - decided to replace it. I had 2 - 4 ins. of Raccoon crap in the soffit! And dead baby coons, kind of mummyfied. And one live female. Now dead. There is nothing good about a coon. BTW - the only guy I ever knew who ate these rodents was basically crazy. He would eat possums too. He was from Tennesee. Easy.

Local tractor show had the same sort of problem with the school house on the grounds. Don't know why the wanted in there. Only thing I can think of is the school was "Coon Center #1". Must have been looking for a higher education! LOL

Board president happened to see one go in. Turns out they were crawling up the corners of the building. Put some tin on the corners and that ended the problem.

J.T., a coon dug through the roof of the gas station there a couple of years ago but stopped after it reached through the hole and took the insulation off a live wire. I found it out when I touched the wire while patching the hole.

I use "live traps" baited with dry catfood in a tuna can bolted to the trigger-plate..

Got over 35 last year, and everyone found a new home in a groundhog hole...!!!

loud music will drive them out also. if you can gain access put a boombox up there fairly loud and she'll be gone. has worked many times.

We use one of the 'Have a Heart' traps baited with salmon. Catches cats to coons about 10 to 1 but thats ok, the cats get over it (I am a huge cat lover, my black cat is the least bright of the bunch though, I cat him most of the time). Did net 17 coons and 3 possums last year, plus 6 ground hogs baited with sweet corn. Disposal of the captured coons and other vermin are at the discretion of you and your local laws.

While walking out of the farm store with my new live trap,I met a a hunter/trapper buddy who asked what I was going to do with the trap? Told him I had a coon problem. his second question was what I was going to use for bait. He said that if you use cat food/dog food/meat,that all you will catch is cats. He said to use small marshmellows, cats dont like em,coons love em. Many a big coon has given his life for a sweet creamy, sugar coated marshmellow. Over 100 at last count.

A friend of mine borrowed a Bee keepper's smoke pot and stuck it in the hole. Almost instantly the mama coon started wanting out. he came down off the ladder and the coon was right behind him. Did her in with a .22 caliber SHORT. They only make a "pop" and don't bring attention like a .22 LR.

Ammonia. I don't know if it will harm your aluminum soffit but if you can squirt some of that in there she may decide to leave. If you can, shoot her. I live far enough out in the sticks that I shoot any that are around the house. They are protected this time of year but I don't think I have to have them trying to live with me. They are prone to rabies so I'm protecting my family.

May sound funny now, but if something lethal is shot up the hole in the soffit and the coon dies the smell in the house will be horrible. Think about a mouse dying under the refrig and then multiply it by 1000.

IN MY NEW BARN LOFT! Coons went upstairs to the loft that is for storage and soon to be "game room." Made messes all over, including recently acquired recliner, chair, and sofa. Temporarily installed electric fence around barn and stairway until live trap arrives. I have had to "fence in" the garden for the last several years. No natural predators, all the food they can eat, no reason not to multiply. I"m gonna become their predator... Later, Mike

I got to thinking about my run ins with coons and I happened to think about the one that uses our permanent duck blind for a rest room. Now its no palace but it gets awful anoying to have to shovel off the seats with a canoe paddle before you dare sit down. Why, when they have all outdoors to use, do they have to defacate in my home away from home? you would almost think they were government sponsered.
