Had the old JD 5020 going again today trying to finish the 20 acre discing job. This should have been done in a few hours, but there is a lot of turning and very steep areas. I was going real good and I hit a wet spot, and down we went. I had instant flash backs to some of the pictures I have seen on stuck and troubled. Part of the problem was the disc hyd hose became disconnected, and I could not raise the disc in time. Hooked hose up again and raised the disc, and just barley made it out. With all that My question is: do the tractor break away connections become weak, causing hoses to pull out very easy? By the way thanks Allan for the tip on how to relieve pressure on the hoses, a little messy , but it works. Stan in calif.

Check the hose length and routing. It is possible that your hoses are on the short sideor hung up on something and then one disconnected during a sharp turn.

37 Chief,I don't have experience with 5020's,but if coupler is same as 4020's,under the bottom of coupler there is a metal clip that attached chains that hold dust plugs. You can just bend this clip a little on each outside. This helps hold handle to open position.Tx Jim

Look at the male coupler tip to see if metal has worn or chipped off around the edge of the groove where the balls seat to hold the tip into the barrel. Also, the balls (the 6 little ones around the periphery of the barrel) wear, as does the barrel itself.

I have ,in a pinch, wired the levers in place until I found the time to repair the problem. Also check to see that the hoses aren't catching on something when you turn.

That is what I finally what had to do to keep the hose in. This problem just started, so looks like I need to check the coupler. Stan
