I am pulling my B this year. Does anyone know how I can grab some more power out of it without tearing it down again? It is a 1941

A 41 B is 18 hp and the 47 B is 28 hp so that is quite a lot, if you would put that size tire that he mentions on it it would have hardly enough power to pull itself as it would make the speed too fast. Only way I would know is the gas pistons, I had a 46 that is the same as the 41 and a 49 that is the same as the 47 and power was a problem with my 46 in field work

If your tractor is anywhere near the stock piston size and type your going to have to pull it down. You at least need to change the all fuel pistons over to gas ones.

I've got a '47 B and pulled w/ it Oct '75 in the 5000 stock class (50 lbs per axle allowed on weight) - your problem is NOT power but traction - I modified a set of original rims and welded a 2" extension strip and then put wider and taller 15.5" tires off a 2510 JD / after filling w/ H20 and weighing at grain elevator had to remove water to be under the max wt of 5200 lbs / still had slippage problems NOT power w/ front wheels "off" the ground and (+/-) 5180# making 100% useful contact - tires only had about 30-40 % tread left and didn't pursue new tires after this pull / wiring the govenor won't help as you're already below the 1200 rpm overspeed range / small county "pulls" died out circa 1980 here in central Texas and I didn't pursue pulling any more after this / I'm born-bred JD "B"'s as family once owned 7 and I can still remember cotton stalks being plowed out before 1 Oct('59-'60) deadline for boll weevil program and all 7 were plowing out cotton stalks in the same field at the same time / a perfect "Kodak" moment but no pics / stay in touch and GOOD LUCK ! / Ray
