Inherited a couple of old Ford tractors & and old Oliver that appear to be in good shape if you can get past the piles of greasy, oily build up on teh engine and other parts. My uncle was an old bachelor and didn"t keep much of anything clean. What is a good way to cut through all that build up? I know a high pressure water hose would work but it would also force gunk and water into palces it shouldn"t be. I"d like to give the old girls a good cleaning so I can tell what I"ve got to work with.
Anyone have ideas on a good way to cut thorough the gunk ?

If grease is really old (thirty, forty years) and waxy, it is best to start out with putty knives, dental scrapers, whatever, and scrape off as much as possible. Then warm up the engine, spray with Gunk, scrubb with a stiff bristle brush, respray with Gunk and then wash off. Might have to repeat process to get it really clean.

I had lots of crud on a diesel that I purchased. I warmed it up a bit (not hot) and sprayed it with Simple Green straight from the jug with a hand sprayer. Hosed it down with the garden hose after a few minutes and it removed 2/3 to ¾ of the grease and dirt. The second time over finished off almost all of it. Biodegradable too.

Astro I have always poured a little diesel fuel or kerosene (you can buy gunk cleaner at most auto parts ) on them and used a pressure washer, you can put the machine in the sun or take an air hose and blow of any moisture if that worries you , lots of tractors have been out in the rain with no ill effects.
