I have recently aquired (given to me) an old 2 row John Deere corn planter. Is anyone farmiliar with the model numbers on these. It is oder than a 290. Does not have fertilzer hoppers and the grain hoppers are smaller than the 290 seed hoppers. The guy that gave it to me said it had cast iron lids for the hoppers? It is set up for wire check and has a tractor type hitch. No seat. If I had a model number I could find a manual for it.

Model 999, measure the diameter and post the size of the press wheels as there are both low and high wheel models, books are hard to find as there is a dozen models of the 999 planter that was orignal a horse planter and later JD came out with a tractor hitch for them, have one after about 4 years I got it partly identified but can't remember now off hand, Also have 3 290 and 2 490 planters along with a 450, 2 494 and a 494A planter

More, Cast Iron lids would have made it an early one as mine has the pressed steel lids or it could be an even earlier 9 or 99 that I have no information on except that some of the earliest planters had Dain in the name
