Hi folks,

I am looking up upgrade to 4WD. I have a 2WD IH-584. Looking for something in a similar "build". An 1,100 hr. Zetor 4340 with a cab and quickie loader is available in my area for what seems like a reasonable price, but I know nothing about Zetor....

1. Are they reliable?
2. parts available?
3. rugged?
4. strong?
5. any particular troubles or differences from the more common names?

How would they compare to a CaseIH, Massey, etc. ? I just don't hear too much about them, but don't want to dismiss a good machine just because I'm not familiar with it.

Any thoughts are welcome...

This is an interesting thread, as there has been very little bad said so far. I have no personal experience with Zetor. That said, I know half a dozen farmers in my area who have had various Zetor's. Of that half dozen or so (and probably a dozen tractors between them), there is only one who would buy another. The remainder have learned an expensive lesson in downtime. The most common models in my area were the 5011, 7211/7245, and the 8011/8045. The 72 and the 80's in this area ALL had engine failures at less than 5000 hours. These tractors are all on farms where there are Fords, Deere's, Massey's, David Brown's and Internationals running beside them, with some over 12000 original hours. That's the local stat's on Zetor. Judge for yourself wether or not that fit's your needs. Mabey the newer model you are considering is more reliable, but personally I wouldn't waste my time on a phone call. Best of luck.

Rod

When I was over in Ireland staying at a friend's family farm, I saw a few Zetors. I asked Enda if they were any good. Basic reply was they had originally been designed by a convent (nuns) and were broken down more than they ran. Enda's family were devout Catholics, but that didn't include Zetors.

I've had a Zetor for a little over a year. 4341 model, MFWD cab loader.
Cab is toasty @ -15F, A/C works great in Summer, I pull a JD 3600 4x18 in heavy clay, 3pt out lifts anything in the class.
I have had no warranty issues, burns about 1 gph. Tractor is 59 pto & about 10,000 lbs.

I have an uncle who used to swear by his Zetor before he died. Run it into a pond onetime and cracked the block. He bought a new motor for it out of Pa. I think for what I thought was really reasonable. I thought that it was neat that Zetor puts or used to put a air compressor on their motors so if you have a flat or something you can just air it up and not be sitting. I am sure the new ones are as good or better although like several others here I have had no personal experience with them.

Never owned a Zetor but I do know that several manufacturers of construction equipment have used Zetor engines. I take that as a good sign.

I also have no experience with Zetors. However, this was planned!! Why do you not stay with a brand that is known and respected($$$$) and try a 684 or a 685 model. A CIH dealer will treat you well as the 584 units are still a good seller in their power range. All minority import units end up being a major parts and $$$ headache as they age. With the IHs do not buy a Kimco 4X4. Get the ZF. QR

Jim, Zetor builds a good sound tractor for the
money. Good on fuel, good power, heavy with lots
of steel. You'll gain 5-10 hp and at least 2000
pounds. Tractor comes with many standard features
that are options on other makes. Things like 2spd
PTO, independent PTO, air compressor, platform,
window washer, etc. Parts are available same as
any brand at comparable prices. Major warehouse
in Harrisburg, PA and a great source for parts is
Ridgeway Enterprises in Summit, AK. The dealer
network is not what it was 10 years ago. Zetor is
very popular in England, Ireland, Norway and the
rest of Europe. Zetor lost ground due to the war
in homeland and competition from newer brands like
Mahindra, Century, Kioti and others. If you buy,
plan on owning it a while as the resale value is
low, but that won't matter if the tractor fits
your needs. I've owned a 5011 for 12 years and had
no trouble at all. Never touched the engine, fuel
system, clutch or hydraulics. Just regular items
like belts, hoses, master cyl., and filters have
been done. There is a dealer in Keene, Keats GMC,
and one in eastern CT, Foskett Equipment.

Respectfully, what "war in the homeland" are you refering to? They're built in the Czech Republic and the Czech's have never gone to war over anything?

Jim, where in NH are you located? Are you looking at that Zetor dealer in Tilton?
I have no personal experience with Zetor. I haven"t heard anything bad about them.

I'm in southern NH - Manchester area. The rig I was looking at is a private sale. Anything good or bad about the dealer in Tilton? I heard there is also one in Keene.

I looked at the private sale unit yesterday. It is very clean, Quicke 340 loader. The machine impressed me, but just may be a bit too big for my needs...still thinking...

Thanks!!,
Jim
