Hi, Just bought a 1969 Ford 3000 gas engine tractor. It has in the 3000 hour range, does not smoke or use oil. What brand and weight is best for this tractor? It is in Misouri
Thanks!
Rick

I have a '70, 3000. Always used shell oil.
Used straight 20 or 30 til it was no longer available. Now we use a 15-40 Rotela T.
Engine has 4000 plus and doesn't use a drop season to season.
Good Luck.

Use a good quality diesel rated engine oil. Generally, I use 15W40, unless the tractor does a lot of cold starting, then I use 10W30. Even though your 3000 is gasoline powered, the engine was designed primairly as a diesel, and a good quality diesel engine oil (CI rating) should be used. This will provide a better level of protection than an SJ rated engine oil in an ag application. HTH.

I don't know what temperatures you are operating in but 10w30 and 10W40 are good starting points. Nothing wrong with 15W40 if the temperatures are on the warm side but my experience with it was it's a little to viscous for easy starting in our western Montana climate except in the summer.

15-40 is what I use in mine.
