As some of you know, I am looking for a set or at least one 16 inch rim for a W9, haven't had much luck yet. I found a couple pictures of a W9 that has non-stock rims on it. I posted the pictures in the photos section, and here is one.

My question is, what kind of rims are they? Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for any info.

Chad, I'm fairly familiar with the W9 and WD9. When you mention 16" rims I'm presuming your meaning 16" width rear rims (not 16" front rims- front should be 18" tire size). The W9 used a 34" regular rim as used on John Deere, Case and many others. I'm not sure what the rim width was but it was intended to use a 14/16.9 X 34 or 15/18.4 X 34 tire. If you want wider rims as I see in your picture, these rims would be from a W600 or W650 tractor. When IHC updated and changed the W9 it became the W600 and then the W650. One of the changes was wider rims with loops attached for mounting the rim to the cast wheel. These will bolt right to your W9 cast wheel center. The bolt pattern is the same. You can also use the original style rim on your tractor which you will find on John Deere 80/820/830 or Case 500/600/900 and many others. These will attach to your tractor using the bolts and clamps that you have. If you have other questions just post.

Thanks for the info Don. I was talking rear rims, the narrow rims for 15.5x34's are easier to find, but I would rather stay with the 18.4x34's on the tractor.

I did know they changed the rims at one point, but hadn't ever seen the newer ones, guess I have now.

I hadn't ever heard that the rims from the JD's and Cases would bolt up, I had always heard the W9 was a pretty unique rim. If that is the case, then the one I found for $50 that the guy said would fit may very well. Probably worth the $50 to check it out rather than the $200 for a "correct" rim.

Little background, this tractor was Dad's has a nice dozer set up on it, was always lightly used (pushing dirt around stock tanks, rebuilding terraces...) and I always loved the look of it. I will scan a picture when I get a chance and post it. Anyway, Dad grew up driving W9's and WD9's in NW Kansas, and now that he is gone, I'm not going to let the tractor sit and die. Has one rusted rim, rotted rear tires, and needs a tune up and I will have it back to light duty work. Maybe restore at some point, but for now just keep it from dieing a slow death and use it on my driveway...his MD with F10 is still is use, so I'm not so worried about it. Besides, the W series are a little unusual here, see lots of M's and H's, but I only know of a few other W's in the area.

The rims shown here are for the real late production and the 600 series, even the 660 has this type of rim.

Can not tell for sure from photo, looks like someone welded loops on stock rim to bolt to wheel instead of clamps. Maybe to make wider?

Chad,

I forgot to mention that my late tractor buddy, Mr. Frank, once told me that some of the older Case rims would bolt right up to a similar sized Farmall. He gave me a Case CC and he told me one day that his Farmall 350 & 400 rims were interchangeable with the Case, but I haven't had a chance to check this out.

Chad,

I saw a W9 over the weekend at a local tractor pull--It had a big-block Chevy for power. Pulled the sled at 16 mph all the way down the track. Sled operator was looking into installing seat belts on the sled.

Anyway the owner is from Louisiana--I'll get in touch with him to see if he can help.
