bale spike mounted on baler plunger

Farmer next door taked about mounting a spike on the baler plunger to put a hole down the center to help the hay dry. Any thoughts

On some forum somewhere I remember a fellow who had that. He said it really saved him a lot of money when people tried to return 'bad' hay he sold them, but the returned bales didn't have holes in them - not from him.

Otherwise seemed it didn't really do all that much for him as far as hay quality as I recall.

i used to mount a few in balers when they were first introduced. Most got taken back out. Made bananna shape bales. If you have a hay drier they do assist a wee bit. Think i have one here still for a New Holland baler.
