I have all ways tried to buy US when I can but no more will I even worry about it. What brought this on is I picked up a packet of tomatoe seeds yesterday. Brand: Burpes's some thing or other, Martha Stwart name all over it and on the back PRODUCT OF CHINA. Some of the seeds were US, some from other countries.

C'mon you country bumpkins, what the heck have you been doing the last 30 years? That's what happens when you watch too much Homer Simpson or live in a cave too long without poking your head out. Give up the complaints and climb on the bandwagon or "you'll be left behind" (as they said in Johnny Appleseed).

No room for that type of production in the united states. Sweet shop production, child labor laws. Kids think that working at McD's or Wally World is Bad with Minimum wage laws protecting them and tenthousand other laws that says they can't fire the kid that doesn't know anything or really doesn't want to help me. Some of the things we do to our selves. Did I just write this, I didn't think I was that old. I must be reading this board to often.

Why not?
I've heard it said by a very educated person of the world that someday we will all have a cream colored skin. Maybe sooner than later???
Enjoy the neighbors afar, they may be better than the ones next door. Who knows???
Only or Maker does.
God Bless,

It's a losing battle. The big software companies are sending your tax returns to India for processing. There was even a rumor last year during tax time that the federal govt was having some tax returns processed in India.

Wanna here a real laugher???? I work at a country club. Yesterday, I was out picking up some plumbing parts, when my boss phoned me. He wanted me to go by a novelty store, and pick up some "Japanese Lanterns" for a party they're setting up here.

The "JAPANESE LANTERNS" were made in, of all places, Arkansas.....

But our cars are built in Japan..... .....

Toyota, Mercedes, BMW and others all have US plants.

If you have NOT worked in a large company
or seen the disapearance of some (Wang Computers,
Digital Equipment, etc., etc.) you would have no
idea of the stupidity of it sometimes.

Recently saw something on TV, must of been the History channel about British autos. The unions and management spent so much time fighting between themselves that they lost the whole industry.

Indy, I can"t quite remember just what the product was, but what has stuck in my mind is that while going through a souvenir shop in the Ozarks, and some trinket one would have thought should have been made in Japan or China was indeed made in Arkansas, whereas the cedar outhouses and cedar wishing wells which were inscribed as "Souvenirs of the Ozarks" had stamped on the bottom, "made in mainland China". I also remember a shop in New Mexico years ago and it had a hand painted sign advertising "genuine Navajo blankets". The blankets themselves had a tag which read, "made in occupied Japan". As a 10 year old kid at the time, I then learned never to believe what advertisements or most other adults had to say.

thats a darn good point. Shows the we can hold our own when on an even playing field. I think my point is that I will never again worry about where some thing comes from. Most uneven playing field I can think of is, I can't buy my medicine from Canada. But that a OT subject we better leave alone.

Let's face it guys, we're international whether or not we like it.

Now for the folks that like to whine (not you but someone reading this will be a whiner):

Everything that I have read about our domestic steel problem had to do with outdated factories with outdated equipment that couldn't compete cause it was inefficient. These factories were booming in the '50's. That was their hay day. That's when they were leading edge technology.

We have new steel mills here as competetive as anywhere turning out the finest steel in the world. They're not as big as USS was but everything is better INCLUDING WORKING CONDITIONS.

Automobiles are built all over the place. I buy American and they may be assembled in Tenn, or Canada, or Mexico with parts coming from all over.

Seems we forget that the foreigners have plants over here too: Mercedes and Japanese to name a few that pay American Taxes, consume American consumables, and pay salaries to American workers.

So it ain't all that bad.

Enjoy the low prices while you can. One day China and Mexico will be on the same wage scale as the US and Japan and the super deluxe color TV with flat screen, remote control, and stereo and all that stuff for $237 will be no more.

My 2c

Mark

txblu, Once again, you see things as they really are. We couldnt afford to buy half the things we own if every American bought only those goods manufactured and assembled in the U.S.A. We all want the high wages, but along with that comes high prices. At some point, there has to be a balance. The playing field may never be 100% even, but it isnt 100% uneven either.

Hi Paul,

Like jawin with you.

I learned at an early age the mom and pop shops were for mom and pop; not the consumer. Sorry but that has proven true time and time again. Give me the Wally world and the money back guarantee, no questions asked, the volume buying with the corresponding discounts and all. I love it .

Best,

Mark

You nailed it txblu, not only on steel but when is the last time that you saw a new oil refinery built in the states. The last that I can remember was in the 70's, the capacity is not there to handle the demand no matter what the price of oil is. I worked in that industry for 22 years. Now I moved to TN and work for a Japanese car company making cars in the good ole US and exporting them all over the world. What a switch...

Yeah man. Gotta go with the flow. That's how you survive.

So how's the orientals for bosses. Are they on your case all the time to increase production and all or good to work for?

Do you have to do exercises in the mornings? That's good for you (and them) and companies are finally realizing that.

txblu how can u say mom and pop stores are only for mom and pop, not the consumer...when its was the mom and pop stores that gave the best customer service....walking into a place with the same face someone who knows you by name always dealing with the owners and they always tried to help people nothing gets me angrier than when u go to a walmart- type store and the person you ask a question to doesnt speak english. or you get the other types who you can tell hate there job and dont give rats behind. i think america could compete but you get corporate greed, lawyers who sue for anything, and most americans want to make 50 dollars an hour and work 10 hours a week instead of like years ago when people actually worked hard instead of trying to make the world a perfect place which will never happen take the good with the bad china and japan didnt build america americans did

Man I'm sorry, but for me the mom and pop was walk out the door with it and it ain't coming back don't care what's wrong.

I can get service at any local big ticket store. Sometimes they are right there and sometimes I have to ask, but I get it.

For what's worth, my daddy and mother were mom and pops..... .....in the eating business.....hard to bring that back. Grin.
