What is the trick to bleed Cat injectors without wearing out the starter and batteries?
The filters and pump are hand primed and clear, but it seems forever before any injector line would show fuel.
Any Cat mechanics out there? This is the first one I have worked on, and have never experienced injectors that are so hard to bleed.
Thanx; Tom S

I have 2 Cat 3208"s and have been required to bleed them a few times. I open the little t shaped valve on top at the front center of the engine then hand pump the primer pump till the fuel flows out at the bottem of the engine then close them and it will start right up. I will be watching this Thread closly to see what others may have to say on this in case I have a problem some day.

I am a little puzzled by your problem. Years ago I had to bleed many 3208 when changing nozzles. What fuel system do you have; a sleeve metering or scroll? It generally helps to open the throttle. We broke the fuel lines at the cyl head and never really had any problems, although after they again went back to scroll, I was working on something else. It's been a long time. Maybe they removed the scratch from the injection pump hat checks for emissions reasons in late production which may effect bleeding. Regardless you are on the correct path by using the priming pump. I know it is a lot of work, put keep pumping away and you will get there. Sorry I'm not more help. I do have another source who worked on the fuel pump and if this remains a problem I can ask him. Be sure the priming pump works, they do fail.

Priming the pump is a snap, but just wait till you have to get air out of the hi press lines and injectors one day. They are not connected to one another and DO NOT cross bleed. Otherwise, a great engine. Just impossible to work on outside a Cat shop.

Tom, you can force fuel down the line to the head with the priming pump. Only problem is the connector some times turns in the metal lock. If you are just changing the filter, pumping fuel to the bleed valve should do.

Refresh me please. Is it the threaded connector at the hand pump that sometimes turns in the metal lock? I had another person tell me that I could hand bleed the injectors with the priming pump, but I was under the impression that I could not force fuel past the plungers [pistons?] in the injector pump. Am I incorrect? This motor was run dry and quit running.
Thank you very much Bob. If you don't mind, email me so I could ask you a couple more questions about this.

Are you putting your foot to the floor to get the first injector bleed? once it is running on one or two give it a little fuel to keep volume up and the thing running. I found it hard to get the last air out of one of the lines with out enough volume to push it around.
