I originally posted this on the todays tractor board but only heard from one gentleman, and gh I appreciate his opionan I would like some feed back from some other folks. The price is basicly the same so. Decisions, decisions. Thanks.

I am looking at a 5103 and a 431. With out starting a color war, Any opinions or experiances with either of these two different brands. I will be doing shredding, Possibly a little square baling and other basic farm chores down here in the lone star state(north). Thanks in advance.

I can tell you one advantage the Deere has is independent pto which the 431 does not have available, even as an option. You will appreciate this with pto work. Both should give good service so I would give a lot of consideration which dealer was the closest and the best to deal with in regard to service and parts. The Deere has a roomier platform since the gears are out to the side. Another thing is the Deere has wet brakes and the Massey has drum brakes that are not as good.
