I know I can drive my tractor on the road with the triangle placard on the back of the tractor. My question is, say that I am in an accident of some sort, whether or not it is my fault or not, what type of insurance covers you while driving your tractor on public roads?

Joe

I'm an insurance agent in N New York. The most important thing to remember is that unlike banking (mostly Federal) insurance is pretty much controlled by individual states (for now). Therefore be careful of on-line advice. Work with a local independent agent and get it in writing.
Good luck.

You really want to ask questions when speaking to your HO agent. I found out 2 years after the fact that I was only covered pulling a mower (brush hog) and when mowing. They considered it an over sized lawn mower. No mower (tractor only), pulling wagons, baler and such, NO coverage. Had to upgrade to a farm policy.

You might check wigh your home owners policy. I carry a one million doller liability policy on my tractors. With this it covers any damage my tractors do. It even covers if kids are playing on it while parked, and fall off, and get injured. This is rather expensive, around 1,400 a year. This is why I charge 80 $ an hr. to mow, and more to disc. With all the rain we are getting here in Calif. it is going to be a busy year. Stan
