I live in Southwestern Ohio and I am looking for a place to get some poultry manure to spread on my Alfalfa hay field. I sell the hay to local horse people. Does anyone have any suggestions who I might contact.

Roseacre Farms in Seymour In. They haul it by the tracter-trailer load.-

Finding egg producers in your area may be as simple as going to the grocery store and looking at cartoned eggs. The producer may be listed instead of the distributing grocery store.

Your state environmental department or health department should be able to tell you who has waste permits which would tell you the producers and where they are located.

Check with the American Egg Board via email.

Last choice---drive around this summer with your vehicle window down. Yikes! What is that smell?

How much chicken manure are you looking for, tons or pounds? Ask another way how many acres of alfalfa do you have? Baldy in TN

I know they sell it in eastern panhandle of W. Va. You can probably contact the WV Dept. Ag website & get prices, distances, trucking arrangements, etc. Its a waste product over there from the great chicken farms; it is heated & treated to kill pathogens.

Stupid as this may sound, because we ALL know that the disease causing agent is different for different species (i.e. a horse cannot catch it from a chicken).....

you will want to watch yourself around certain horse people as they will be "certain" that their horses will get coccidiosis from your manure. This view is so prevalent around here that most barns won't have chickens on the premises because the borders pitch a fit. It IS stupid, because chickens and horses coexist very well, but you might want to keep it to yourself what it is that makes that alfalfa so green.

I would suggest that you contact your county extension agent. They should be able to give you some ideas or maybe even some names.
