Just think, they can also get online with many city/county government sites and find out how much you paid for your property, the current tax value, etc etc etc. Information like this has been a matter of public record for years the internet has just made everything easier to access.

My son showed me that two years ago. It's not that new. I use it a lot when I see a classified ad that interests me, but not enough to call. I'll google the phone number to see where it is. Then if I'm in the area I'll drop by. If a seller knows you're coming he can make sure the vehicle starts, etc, whereas if you drop by cold, you'll get a better idea of the condition.

This is one of the sites where you can see your house from the spy camera. it is not the best, the one I remember, you could count the lugnuts on your truck setting in your drive way.

Just read your post and tried it for the UK. Doesn't seem to come up with any private numbers, but if anyone has listed as a business..... there you go! Chris.

Hi Rusty,

If you wanna really scare yourself, go to any search engine and just type in your own name.

Better yet, type in your social security number. What's the saying? You can run but ya can't hide? :>)

This info has been around as long as I've been in the banking business (10 years). The only difference is we used to have to pay private companies for access to their database, now the internet gives us most of the info free. Comes in handy when someone skips on a loan.

Hey, all we need now is our national ID card and we are all set. At least that is better than Orwells tatoo idea. Dial up phone number locator service and map quest, whoa. We have come a long way haven't we? Heck if you have a computer you don't even need to ask for directions. Big brother is watching. Modern technology , hey?

And after you get the map to the house, you can hookup to the big camera in the sky and see if anyones home. I don't remember the site for the camera, but some of you guys that are good with your computer should be able to find it.

I have used that directory for several years to find the name behind the phone number that is listed with a 'for sale' item in the want adds. It doesn't list cell phone numbers and I hope it never does, though there is a 'do not publish' list for that too now. I guess I am not too worried about my own security. The county platt book has me listed anyway.

Thats been available for at least 5 years now actually. And you can do it with more than google. Just about any search engine.

If you phone number and address is printed in a phone book, its available and searchable online.

The internet makes it easier to do, but before the internet, you can take a phone book, and a map, and accomplish the same thing, it just took more time and effort.

You can also type and search your name, and come up with some interesting things as well.

I understood that these references do NOT come from phone company listings, rather they come from mailing lists collected from various sources who sell their mailing lists.

I do not know if this is still true, but I'd guess it is.

BB is right. You can do reverse number lookups, searches by name, phone, address etc. I don"t think there"s any way to get away from it.

Yeah. And it is not just google. There are other web sites that you can put in a phone number and find the name and address and map. I have done this numerous times for classified ads in the newspaper to see the location of the item I was looking at.

If you have an "Unpublished" number, it doesn't work. I assume unlisted is the same.

Don't mean to upset anyone, but if you think this is the worst thing that can happen to you, you might want to wake up.

Taking your name off of that site or getting an unlisted number is not going to help anything.

There are about 15 or 20 ways that a person can find you if they want to....so don't waste time worrying about it.

They can find you unless you are in congress, making themselves hard to find was one of the first acts of congress after 9-11.
