These tractors are the older model of the 444 and 354. The BD154 would have a lifespan of 3500 to 5000 hours. We had one with a 1501 IHC loader. The diesel is very cold blooded and required a 1500 watt tank heater to assist starting in cool or cold weather. The glow plug system must be properly maintained. When the 434 was 3 years old we replaced it with a 454 and an 1850 loader. this had the Nuess 179 inch direct injection motor. Never use ether in the 434 It is a good light duty tractor. Good luck. To make it reliable....get rid of that Lucas, princess of darkness generator and replace it with an alternator. That will keep your battery up and charged and she'll start on the coldest of days. Hound

I"ve got a 1962 B414 and the engine was shot at 5,500 hours. Fit the alternator. These engines don"t like condensation inside (the cylinder head / valve seats corrode) Avoid loads of short runs, fit a new thermostat, change the oil frequently. They are good tractors if a little light. Does anybody know what the hydraulic pressure is?

But I wouldn't fix it if it ain't broke. Wait till it fails.

While in here, I had a '74 464 gas for several years. Only problem was a cracked exhaust manifold and hard starting. Hard starting was probably my fault as it was early in my tractor days and I was learning how to keep em running.

Part of my problem was not shutting off my fuel when finished but you won't have that problem with your diesel. Also since your combustion temp is lower than with gas, you probably won't have the cracked manifold problem either.

Good luck.

Mark
