i can already hear the nay sayers aobut this but i would also heat it up with the torch and qench it and then heat it up w/the torch cherry red and spray penetrating oil on it. as it cools it will suck it in. it will make alot of smoke but shouldnt set anything on fire as long as you dont apply flame to it if you do apply flame and then back it off and let the excess burn off. also if you dont have a torch i have seen people use a cut off wheel just dont get into the exhaust manifold itself make a slit and peel it off. have seen that done

Take a 2x4 and place it on the top end of the muffler. Hit the 2x4 down with a hammer until you start the muffler moving down Then pull it off.

Believe it or not, keep spraying it with PB Blaster penetrating oil. Get it at parts store. It will stink some, but who cares. We loosened the gate on the fertilizer spreader, I never would have believed it could be done. Try it, it works!

Use a hacksaw, porta-band or reciprocating saw (whatever fits or whatever you have on hand) to cut the pipe above the hood, then remove the hood and you can do the hot work to remove the exhaust pipe that joins the manifold without damaging the hood.

first, make sure you can replace it. sounds like its overdue. then get out the cuttin torch and carefully cut it off just above the top of the exaust manifold, and do whatever you need to do. then heat up the last piece to about cherry red, and try to pull it off with vice grips, or channel locks. farmweld

I have had some success by heating the metal on the muffler bib with a torch cherry red then let cool. Work it back in forth until the rust wil start breaking then hit it with penetrating oil. Not sure if ya have room to do this if the hood is in the way....good luck....
