For those of us that use are tractors on a limited basis is Fuel Stabilizer recommended? If so, what brands and how long is is good for?

Joe

A couple years ago I was having big troubles on my Farmall Super M in the spring with the needle getting stuck. After getting tired of adjusting it with a hammer I put a can of cheapo stabilizer from the discount store. I don't remember the brand name. Come spring that tractor started nice as you please and has continued to do so for 2 years without any more stabilizer.... Wierd.

On my snowmobiles I put 2oz of Sta-bil brand stabilizer in every 5 gal can of gas when I add the mix oil. Never have any problems with stale gas even 8 months later.

If the tractor is in indefinite storage use aviation 100LL. It has a shelf life of approx three years as uposed to the two weeks of auto gas. A couple of gallons run into an emptied system will cost about the same and last longer then putting additive in autogas.

Here I am an A&P Mechanic and did not know that about 100LL. I guess that is what you get when you only work on the Airliners.

I am right in assuming Phoenix? Used to go to Riddle (really a joke) myself. Get a line boy to snag you sump fuel. All our mechanics when i worked in DesMoines Int. Drove diesels with fuel supplied by sumped Jet A.

The schools are a joke! Everyone I know that has ever used sump fuel before has had to replace pumps at about 40,000 miles, even with added lube! Was the trade in fuel costs worth it? Yes, but I just would rather pay for it at the pump.

I will buy some 100LL and give it a shot. A little lead would probably do the engine some good anyway.

For the money you can't beat sta-bil. It works good with either gas or fuel oil. I use it all the time and never had any carborater troubles and starting.
