Got a shock this evening. Had ordered a small spring which was $3.74 which I thought was kind of steep ,but the real kicker was I was charged $2.00 for "shipping & handling".Next time I'll,check the local hardware first.Probably could have gotten it there for a third of the price without the S&H.Dealer says the branch house is charging the S&H so he has no option but to charge it too.Said one part that was ordered for another customer and the part weighed less than an ounce--S&H was $11.You think Deere has too many employees living in big houses overlooking the "Big Muddy?"I think I have lived about long enough.

I always thought that companies that deal in mail order and charge a handling fee for processing your order were ripping you off. I can see paying for shipping but not for processing and picking your order that should be built into the price as a cost of doing business. You don't pay a shelf stocking fee at your grocerey store or a tank filling fee at your gas station. JMHO

Doesn't seem excesive to me. They're in business for a profit. $2.00 to fully process your order is not that much. How much of thier time did you waste carping about it? The great thing about Deere is you could ask for just about any part for a 1960 and older piece of equipment and chances are they'll have it available. I suggest that instead of flaming Deere, you go get yourself a Kobutu or some other similar piece of Asian junk. I'm sure you'll be a lot happier.

I suppose that if you had paid 5.74 for the spring you wouldn't like it but would accept it. If I were JD or anyone else with that type of operation I'd have to put the cost of sending a 15 dollar an hour man out to retrieve a part that you may have a .74 mark up on somewhere. If you don't want to pay the price you don't have to. As you said you could go to your local hardware store and find it maybe!!! That won't cost anything will it????? ??

I finally just figured out why our dealer installed an automatic opening front door.

This way you can walk in backwards bent over.

i ordered 2 keys for my toolbox from sears. keys were 3.69 a piece. and shipping and handling for 2 keys cost 4.50. 4.50 to ship 2 keys you want to know ridiculous that is spending 11 bucks and change for 2 keys but i coudlnt get them cut anywehre as they use a special blank w/a groove in the center and cut on both sides. this is another story but w/these automated machines and the flaming morons at the local hardware store w/the automated machines and their brain power claim they cant even cut 2 sided keys at the rockford menards. i never knew it was hard to cut a key but now it is all automated

That's true, IMHO. Anyone complaining about parts OR shipping prices should try getting Sears parts!

By not stocking parts, the dealer is saving a lot of money in inventory and shelf space overhead. But we, the customer, are then charged shipping by the order. From what I have seen they don't do batch ordering. Each customer order is a separate order with separate shipping. A real rip off. I have avoided shipping by requesting mine be included in a stock order. Most of the time that option is not offered and I have to request it.

MSB that is cheep we mail stuff all the time, here is how it works. I take the parcel to the post office, the lady weighs it then measures it, length, width and height puts all this in the computer then puts in the postal code (postal code tells it how far the parcel is going) the last parcel I mailed was 8” square and very light (box weighed more than what was in it). The cost for postage was $6.52 plus 7% GST = $6.98. We have been charging $7.00 shipping & handling because we don’t know for sure until we go to the post office. WE don’t care about handling charges, but how do we make change. A stamp costs 50c plus GST = 54c. All the customer sees is the $6.52 and thinks we ripped them off for 48c.
What was in the parcel only cost $13.00.
But that’s Canada and privatization. And more to come.

It's the same here in the US. I ship stuuf all the time and $2.00 is cheap. I was shipping a manual media mail the other day which is supposed to be an inexpensive way and it was $2.50.

If I don't need the part ASAP, I tell my JD dealer to wait and put it in his weekly stock order.
That way no S&H charge !

If the part is being shipped UPS have it drop shipped at your house instead of the dealership. At least you save a trip for the shipping charge.
