We have an IH 706 that is not getting any spark. We replaced the coil, points and condensor, resistor, spark plugs and it did not help. The distributer cap and wires are fine. This is our work horse tractor and we need to get it running. Any hlep would be appreciated! Thanks

I would also check the breaker arm on the points to ensure it is working properly. Its a real long shot, but I have heard of that being a problem before.

With a 12v test light check to see if you have "juice" at the coil with the key in the "ON" position. If not, I'd start by checking the switch. If you do have "juice" at the coil I'd have to say it's in the dist., wires, plugs. Good luck and post back what you find.

My question is how do you know they are fine?? Are they new?? if not you can not be sure. Heres a way to make sure but you will only do it once. Hold on to the cap and or wires and have some one turn it over. If you jump about 2 foot in the air theres your problem. You should also try to hot wire it that takes a lot of wire out of the question. If it runs hot wired you have ignition trouble or bad wireing

I didn't see any mention of the step down resistor. It is a ceramic block with a coil of wire in it that is mounted on the side of the engine. It gives 12v to start then heats up and increases resistance stepping down the voltage to extend the life of the points.

Mike, I'm Cory's Father and this problem tractor
is actually mine. Yes that was the first thing we
replaced. Before this all started the tractor would get hot and want to cut out. I got the 706
last March at a Farm Auction and the previous
owner told me he had replaced the plug wires and
plugs. We pulled the plugs and they were pretty
gunked up.
