Do we still have free speech? OT

I believe what you say even in private is being used against some people to torture, humiliate and control their lives. I also believe that what you say is being used as a basis for taking personal property. Should speech be monitored and recorded 24/7 to create a database whichcan be used against that person? What do you think?

Wire taps and such have been used for decades to record conversations people thought were private in order to be used against them in criminal and civil trials. This is nothing new. As another person said, you seem to be mixing up free speech with privacy.

As for the actual question regarding free speech, certainly that is being curtailed. The prosecution and termination of employees for what they say privately at work, particularly via e-mails and web board postings is steadily increasing. Political correctness in speech has become so entrenched that people don't even recognize it any longer. Our current president and his minions have been quite loud in their opposition to free speech following 9/11.

But then, most people think free speech means the right to say whatever they want, whenever they want, without accountability or responsibility for their words. That was never the case.

I'm not sure if anyone is monitoring my speech, although I'm almost sure they are; I know for a fact they're monitoring my thoughts. At least 3 or 4 times a week, I can sense the black helicopters outside (always at night); I go out to look and cannot hear or see them, but they're there. WE NEED TO WAKE UP, PEOPLE, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. If they're not checking your thoughts, they soon will be; probably you just can not sense them, but there're there..... ....

Thurlow, I think you are on to something here. I have been hearing and seeing things since 1968 after I got to Nam. All kinds of things happened. Little animals, pink elephants, short people with almond shaped eyes, you know the usual stuff we see when we KNOW THEY are out there. I'm just glad someone else is seeing and hearing these things. I thought it was just me. Later, Harley

I don't talk about this very much because most people just roll their eyes, the Sheriff's department won't even talk to me; but you and I KNOW..... .. just wait, we'll be vindicated.

I think you're confusing "free speech" with "privacy". The fact is, pretty much anything you say in public could always be used against you in a court of law. It just that it's a lot more difficult to say anything today without someone listening.

As far as privacy goes, your privacy is slowly going away, probably in ways you never even noticed. Case in point: Those supermarket discount cards, do you realize that they are used to track every single purchase you make? Yep, Kroger knows exactly how many tubes of Preparation H you went through last year. There was a recent case where a man was (wrongly) arrested for arson because his Safeway discount card showed that he had recently purchased fire starter sticks.

I could post more examples, but my point is that we have NO privacy, and we don't even know when we lost it.

I believe in free speech, I also believe those Professors that try to teach our kids that America got what it deserved on 9-11, need their butts kicked out of the U.S. I also believe, that those that say things over the airwaves, that put our service men and women in harms way, need their butts kicked. {Really mild as to what I believe}
I also believe those that deal in child porn should have their private parts removed. And the list goes on.

I usually just turn myself in. Once got chewed out by the boss for doing something that I was supposed to do. When he got done, I recited it back to him word for word, and when he agreed with me, I suspended myself without pay for 3 days and hung up on him. Then called chief steward and told him that I was just suspended for 3 days without pay, I wasn't fighting it, and would be in Monday (after finished suspension) to sign the papers of dicipline, and hung up on him. He paged me back to find out what the h... I was talking about, then conferenced me in with the boss, and I told them that while I was suspended, I'd consider firing myself, and let them know my decision when returned Monday and hung up on them both. I sure got chewed out for that, but am still working there.

Hummmmm.....

Guess that depends. If'n your talkin bout 20-40 year old middle-eastern men talkin bout blowin me up, more power to them.

If your talkin bout some blow dealer tryin to provide my kiddies with with gold, more power to them.

Personally I think if your so paranoid that it bothers ya, you might just be doing something you shouldn't.

As for me, they could listen in all they want, I doubt they'd be awake very long..... .

Just remember; it's ALWAYS easier to be forgiven than it is to get permission. If you don't believe that, just ask your wife if it's O.K. to go out and get drunk and pick up some pretty girls!
