need some help please. recently purchased jd 2030. in process of doing some minor repairs. the differential lock is apparently froze as the lever will not move. shop manual is not clear on this, but can you get to that part if you remove the lift cover? any advice on freeing it up. thanks for any help. have a nice day.

My 2350 did that, too, but as i had it in the shop anyway for some other work, I had the shop free it up, but apparently it was a pretty trivial job to free it as it was not even on the invoice.

The stuff on the inside all runs in oil,so it should be stuck in the area on the outside before the seal/o-ring. Get some PB blaster and keep soaking it down some gentle tapping and prying maybe even throw some heat on that area to help draw in the penetrant oil.

I had a 2640 that done the same thing and put WD-40 on the shaft that the pedal is on and worked it loose. If you take the top cover off you can see the components. HTH

My 2440 (same tractor as the 2030 only a little newer and w/ different sheetmetal) also does that. I don't ever need to use the Diff lock, so have not addressed the problem. It is apparantly a common problem!

thanks to all for the replies.we probably won"t be using the lock all that much, but i would like to see things work like thy are supposed to, that is if it doesn"t cost too much to get it that way. we"ll try the lubricant fix first. we have to look into a lift problem, so we will be taking the lift cover next[ lift is very slow]. when we get that problem taken care of. we will have everything ok. have a nice day
