Well, now that the haves and have nots have vented over the $20k 3020 John Deere, wonder what's next to spur a verbal epidemic.

The elections are over so I guess it's tractor's again for the hoop lau. Amazing what people have to say about how other people spend their "their" money. Guess one has to talk about something..... .if he has nothing better to do; especially in a small town.

Sarcastic, you bet.

Let me ask a question in reply to txblu, 01-31-2005 19:19:02
I just read the posts here, so went back and re-read the posts on that tractor, and mine included. I could be wrong, but I'm not seeing where anyone said that the person(s) should or shouldn't have bought the tractor. What I did see was where people, myself included popped off whether or not we (I) thought a 3020 was worth that kind of money. But I don't believe that anyone said that the person(s) could or couldn't, should or shouldn't have used their money to buy it. It's a free world, everyone's welcome to use their monies to do whatever they want, when they want, no matter what I or anyone else says. I for one, never said that they could, or couldn't.

Just pointing that out for anyone that might have thought that I did. Just meeting it headon. No hard feelings to anyone, including those whom feel that as though some (myself included) condemned the person(s), and then turn around and condemn someone, themselves. A vicious circle, that no one in particular is the sole owner of, apparently.

Its just so sad- someone grossly overpaying for a JD 3020, when they should have just sent $10,000 to me to go out and find them a good one for the other $10,000 they had to spend. It isn't just the amount people spend, its the distribution of the funds that is sometimes perplexing.

Well, so long as they give half of it to you, then I'll feel better knowing that at least two people are doing their best to keep or get the economy going. But if I find out that they don't give you half, I'll get back up onto my high horse again. Just let me know. I'll be watching for your signal.

Hmm? What's your signal?

I remember getting away from Killeen, and disappearing out into the middle of nowhere from time to time, to just drink a quiet beer, or few with the buddies, and shoot a game or few of pool. Never one of Tanya Tucker's biggest fans, but she sure could sing "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" just about as good as I've ever heard. And as much as I'd hoped, I'm not sure anymore that I'll get to live out her "Texas When I Die", but I can still think about it.

Every weekend, me and a couple of buddies used to head down to Galveston Island, because sure was a lot of college chickies from UTH sunning themselves, and we didn't mind it a bit. But, about half way between Killeen and Austin were these 4 bars that we'd pass every weekend. One was called The Rattlesnake Inn, and one Saturday, what the heck, we went in. Was no one within 20 miles but us and the bartender. Everything in there, except the jukebox and pool table was rattlesnake. Everything, including the lampshades. Was kind've dark in there, and the jukebox was Hank Sr. from one end to the other, nothin' but 45's of Hank that had been crackin' and poppin' for a good ten years before we got there. But, we stayed and drank beer and shot pool for hours until it was time to mosey on out into the dark, and home. When we got outside, the place next door was jam packed with cars and loud music was pouring out of the place. What the heck, we mosied on over there. When we went in, was the hottest college chickie bar in the whole danged world right there in the middle of nowhere, and we almost missed it too. Mmm, to be young and dumb enough to do that again, just for one day.

txblu,
That's exactly why I read and laugh. If you and Allen and Kyhayman, and some of the other regulars were in the same coffee shop, well..... .... we might have to call the paramedics.

Is it possible that the infamous $20,000 3020 was a case of an estate buy back? Consider: Suppose Grampa or Dad dies unexpectedly and junior decides that since his quarrellsome Brothers and sisters cannot agree on a "valueation" for the "priceless heirloom", It has become a simple case of one heir outbidding the other heir(s) who also want it, with a couple of very innocent (and surprised) REAL BIDDERS thrown in there as well?

at my uncles auction a few years backan Oliver 66 was sold that my grandfather bought one year old and used for over 40 years. I started the bidding at 1100, somebody else bid in then my cousin bid in and I dropped out. My cousins last bid was 1500, I got back in and ended at 2300. The other bidder was a young kid who wanted it but had no idea of the history. The tractor was worth 1200 max no idea why the kid went so high but I wanted grandpa's tractor and was not walking away. I had to work some more overtime to pay for it, have not regretted buying it ever.

It is indeed remarkable how so many folks know just how to spend other peoples $$$$. I doubt that nary a one of the carpers would turn down $20,000 were someone to offer that for their own 3020. Nope, only those who either dont have a 3020 to begin with or could only wish to get that much for it if they did have one. Its so much easier to moan and groan about the other guy"s deal, good or bad.

Hey you gotta have something to talk about. Besides you know we all enjoy it thats why were here, to discuss and share what we know. It's like a cyber coffee shop that seats many all across the world at the same table.
Somebody will check Ebay and find something else of interest within a week or two.

Jonboy, you're good folks.

Like your sense of reasoning. And you're right. This is my coffee shop too (even though I'm sighing off for Monday night). Beats getting out in the weather and burning gas and going to the local hob nob where nobody has a clue what they are talking about. At least on here, you get lively conversation and lots of knowledgeable folks. May or may not agree but who cares. That's what it's all about.....free speech.

Best,

Mark

Best of all you can more freely talk because it is't like your local bar or coffee shop were word is sure to get back to the person your talking about. I spend too much time on here, I really do, but I like it and I have learned alot. And like you say, we tractor lovers are understood here and surrounded by other folks who really enjoy them as well.

Boy the moon must be full. Lots of cooks out there. I was being friendly and courteous. I was having a conversation and wished to convey to the communicant that I received his last transmission and that I had nothing further to say. Hence the 10-4. Could have ignored him but I'm not like that.

I am probably a "kook", but have never been accused of being a "cook" (my wife would debate you to the death if you so asserted). Anyhow, I had seen several of these non-responses on other posts, and thought I might try to smoke out the perp. Guess I succeeded.

Common Thurlow. Be nice. But I did enjoy him.

Hows about "Brian Dunlevy". Used to fly (on)the Lockheed Super G Constillation piston aircraft from the USA to the middle east (on assignment)and other places like that. Had a real deep voice, mustache and always wore a hat. Guy kept you on the edge of your seat as he was always into something.

Hey Mark, meant no harm; just a lot of crazies (myself included) on here today; the 10-4 just triggered a memory of "Highway Patrol" from the '50s (60s???)..... ...remember Brian Donleavy, but not the program. Know very little about aircraft, but have always been crazy about anything with a fan on the front. Grew up reading all the books about the planes of WWII (War Eagles, RAF, Queens Die Proudly, etc). Have always thought..... still do..... that the Constellation was absolutely the prettiest thing that ever flew..... .
