Howdy folks,

Okay, I've got a question for those in the know on this subject. I've been seeing a few highcrops pop up here on YT photo ads and the prices are just mind-blowing to me. Well, I did some digging in a book of mine to see if those high crops are rare (how many were produced). I found out that there were more of those high crops produced than John Deere R tractors. I paid 2500 for that R and could probably sell it restored for around 5000. If there were so many high crops produced then why are they 4 times the price of a restored R when they aren't even restored? Just kinda blew me away. Do you all have any ideas as to why this is the case. Just a curiosity I've had recently. Look forward to your answers. God bless.

What book are you looking at, anyway? There were a total of 1343 two-cylinder Waterloo-built Hi-Crop tractors built, and over 22,000 Model "R" Tractors built. Hi-Crop tractor prices are driven by rarity and the appearance factor.

What hi-crop was produced more than an R?????

I know that somewhere around 175 diesel 730's were made and they were amoung the most produced of any..

It seems that most of these tractors were used in areas of cheap Mexican labor....they were hard workers but knew nothing about tractors. Most of them got run until there was nothing left. It didn't help that most were used on corporate farms where the owners only care about the bottom line....a far cry from the small farmer who took care of his machinery because he couldn't afford to replace it, and thus valued it more.

What high crop was produced more than the R? According to this site there were 21,000 R's made. Yet 31,412 Waterloo Boy's made. There is a lot more to rarity than production numbers.

High Crops and orchards on average have a shorter lifespan than a rowcrop or standard chassis tractor.

What as saying is that rowcrop tractors and orchards are extra scarce as they were worn & abused to an early death.

Most of the two cyl. high crop tractors are low production number tractors. The new generation series are more plentiful but the lure & hype of highcrop tractors has carried them along for high prices and desire to have something different.

The Hi-crops look so exotic while the R looks pretty much like all the rest of the large J.D's
