I'd like to visit with some of you fellas who are familiar with Bombardier half tracks on Ford tractors. I have the tracks but not the boggy wheels or brackets. Info or photo references would be most appreciated!

A friend of mine is a Bombardier collector - of the fully tracked vehicles with Chrysler gas engines - snow cats I guess. He picked up recently a set of half-tracks and the associated installation parts for use on a Ford 8N. I'm not sure if the tracks are Bombardier or some other make. What model Ford with half-tracks are you asking about?

Hi John! We communicated some last year (maybe longer) about adding a Model A Ford transmission to an HG. Since then I got the Model A tranny but then changed direction a little and am now hoping to install a 37 Ford flathead V-8 60 HP engine, clutch and tranny in front of the HG transmission. (I bought an HG with good under carriage and running gear but no engine, tin or radiator that was too good to scrap.) I"ll be looking for a blade for it later. About the Bombardier--I bought some tracks that had been on a Ford 8N that I"d like to put on a Ford 9N or 8N, but I don"t have the boggy wheels and attachments--just the tracks. I need to know what sort of attachment frames were used--and where they attached to the tractor. I would welcome advise/information and any references to helpful photos.

I was just looking at two HGs a guy has for sale. One has a Wisconsin 2 cylinder TF engine and the other has a Chevette engine. As for the latter, the Chevette engine was bad enough in its original home. I've got a several side-photos of the Bombardier half tracks installed on an 8N. Uses rubber tires for bogies. I could scan and send to you, or - if you have access to these books - it's on page 111 - THE BIG BOOK OF FARM TRACTORS, Voyageur Press, 2001, ISBN 0-89658-471-2
Another book shows the Blackhawk halftrack on an 8N that looks almost the same - in FARM TRACTORS - A LIVING HISTORY, 1995, Motorbooks International, ISBN 0-7603-0030-5. In that setup, it states the bogies are 5" X 15" implement tires, track pads are 13" or 16" with 1" grousers. Track width adjustable to 52", 56", or 60" centers. As far as the guy that I know that has the setup - he got it all in pieces, never seen it installed - probably wants to sell it.

John, I found the photo of the half tracks in Leffingwell's book. Thanks. What I really need is to see a picture or diagram of the mounting hardware...which is always hidden behind the tires. I imagine the location of the hinge is critical to keep the tracks in adjustment when the tracks move up and down. If the fellow who has the parts you mentioned might be interested in selling would you let me know. Maybe he has just the parts I need....or maybe he would sent me a photo and some basic measurements. Thanks for your help with this. John W.

I put up some images on this site under "parts and pieces" and titled "8N halftrack parts" but the images uploaded too small to be of much use. I then realized your email address shows, so I emailed with attached image files.

Are you looking for photos of crawlers or of ford tractors with tracks that go over the rear wheels and have a boggy wheel below the engine?? My uncle had one and it was great in the snow

I bought some Bombardier tracks that went over the rear wheels of a Ford 8N. Since I don't have the boggie wheels or attachments I need to find out how they attached and what they looked like. Do you know af any photos on the net?

I just posted a very poor scan of a Ford Crawler on Tractor Photos. If this is what you are looking for I can try to get a better scan of them when I get home.

I think I found your pictures--not sure. They were of a '25 Ford? I'm looking for information on how the tracks were installed on Ford 8 or 9Ns. If you have any info or help on these please let me know.

I am interested as well? There are several pictures in the books that I have but no close-ups. Does anyone still make this type of conversion? or have for sale? Dimensional drawings would be best and then we could all make a set!

Arps was another manufacturer. Don't know if they are still in business. A search might bring something up. Ed

Have you tried the N-Newsletter guys? www.N-News.com I think.
They have a couple pieces of literature on Bombardier which can be purchased.
