Guys,
Got a question...I see so many F250 or 350's or 2500/3500's that have V8 gas, 350 or 351 engines...I cant afford a diesel right now and dont see many 454 or 460's...what can a person expect to tow with one of the 350 or 351 setups? I have plans to trailer a tractor/trailer, with total weight for both of 11,000 - 12,000 lbs...plan to do this about 400 miles per year...then light hauling the (4,000 lbs) another 500 miles per year..not much hauling. Will one of these work for me? I understand I wont be the fastest off the starting line.
Thanks, Tim

Don't know where you are at, but around here there are a lot of 460s and 454s. How old of truck are you looking for?
I strongly recommend the Ford, there great trucks.

The Ford 351 no way ! The Chevy 350 not bad.Get a Dodge 360 it will do it just fine. Now before all you Chevy and Ford nuts get bent out of shape have you ever towed with a Dodge ? I used to be a Chevy man,got tired of repairing truck all the time plus I wanted an extended cab.Dad had good luck with his Ford.I looked at all 3 Dodge had the only extended cab with any room in the back (1996)I found a 2500 4x4 extended cab 360 automatic with high miles for it's age (86,000) so I could afford it.I'm very impressed with that 360 for towing and gas mileage plus it has 160,000 miles on it now with the fewest repairs needed of any other truck I've owned.

you will be overloaded at the 12000lb range but i know a good 350 or 351 would handle it. i guess the big question is how far will the average trip be at one time? 40-50 miles no problem. 200 miles one way....alittle too much! as long as you have a good trailer w/ brakes you should be alright. i pulled plenty of loads alot father then i should have with my '89 2500 w/ a 350. most of the loads were in the 10000lb range. i never had a problem. just take it easy. my 2 cents
