I have a surge vacuum pump that was working fine and then started compressing air instead of drawing a vacuum. Its a model 2 piston pump with a rotary valve, any one have any ideas whats wrong?
Thanks,
Van

You guys were both right, I took the knob cover off and looked it over, the drive pin was worn and slipped over 180* and she was pumping instead of sucking. Pushed down on the retainer and spun the valve 180 and she works again. Many thanks to you both.

Hi Van,

I'm not sure of the model of a surge pump I have, but it is a two cyl. pump. On mine there is a knob on top of the pump that you can push down to change the pump from a vacuum to a (well let's say) a compressor. If your's has a knob on the top try pushing on it, then release quickly, while it's running and see if you get a vacuum.. It's worth a try.. Other than that I don't know what to tell you..
Good luck,
Dick

Is it the typical old Surge with the knob on the top? If so, with the unit "OFF", push down on the knob and rotate it 180 degrees (either direction).

(The knob turns with the rotary valve.)
