I've see a few big machines that have foam filled tires. How would one go about that? Just pull the schrader core out and fill it with cans of spray foam? Have to pop the bead and fill with expanding??

I spent more time fixing flats on my 231s while mowing in the rough territory I finally foamed the fronts. Works great and there is no need for the backs. Adds weight to the front which I needed and have been able to get some mowing done rather than spending my time airing up. I bought a spare tire and wheel at the used tractor store just in case. I would not attempt to do the foam myself.

Best to consult with a local tire shop they should be able to help you out.

You can buy foam filled tires for wheelbarrows, wagons, garden trailers in any farm supply store. They aren't expensive.
For your tractor get a professional to do it. There are a number shops that do it. Make sure this is what you want before you do it and it is expensive.

Personally I'd like to know how to foam fill the small tires on wheelbarrows and garden tractor trailers. Those little tires give me fits trying to air them up when the bead breaks loose.

I tried to fix a flat wheelbarrow tire with good stuff by drilling 4 holes in the tire.

Doesn't work and it takes forever to get that stuff off your hands.

putting air in those little headache tires. in reply to jaybird-oh, 01-10-2005 18:16:19
Try this, Take a small rope and put a loop in one end. Now wrap it around the tire, follow the middle of the tire all the way around. Put the other end of the rope thru the loop and sinch it up tight so the tire pushes out at the rim all the way around. now air it up some but be carfull you can break the rope. Moose

I've done this with a ratchet strap- worked pretty well. But foam in there would be a big help. I generally pump that green "slime" into small tires like that. That seems to help keep them from leaking.

A friend had the fronts done on his 8N Ford. It worked well for him. The tire shop in town did it for him. He did a lot of bush hogging around locust trees and had constant flats.

I know I will catch flack about this, but I would not even think about foaming tires, why?
rough ride, will kill back, kidneys, anything on your boby.
the rough ride will also be rough on your tractor, heard can cause the tin, casting, etc to break, the air in the tire act as the shock absorber on a tractor. You also loose the ability of the tire to flex and can cause you to loose traction.
now you have my .02 worth.

I don't know about that JT I once operated a 544 deere loader with foamed tires ride was not the greatest but I survied, but as you posted they suck in mud you sink like a rock fast but no flats that was nice ripping up old rail roads.

Not sure how they do it but I would think twicw about doing it. Sure flat tires are eliminated but time spent going to the back cracker replaces trips to tire shop

FOR WHAT ITS WORTH

Tire foaming is an art and science. For manlifts etc, the harder the foam the better. For a field tractor the foam can be mixed and injected for a tire to feel little different from an airfilled tire.
