Ok, this is sort of off topic, but you guy's are always a lot of help, and it could apply to burnt tractors as well. I have an '64 VW Beetle that was in the finishing stages of being restored when the shop caught on fire back in 1990. The car was burned slightly, along with melted platic guages etc. At the time it happened, I was told that the metal that had been HOT like that would not hold paint anymore. Is that still true, or has the technology in paint & primers advanced enough for me to try to restore it again?

I haven't painted one with this problem, but did work on a Ford 801 a while back that had been burned up completely. Has been painted for 4- 5 years now with no problem. All sheetmetal was sandblasted before painting. Not sure of other prep done before painting. Your "bug" might still have a chance. P.S. - post on the "paint & bodywork" section on Y/T, there's guy over there with years of experience.
