Sorry for adding another off topic post. I am getting ready to switch over from an electric hot water heater to propane fired.

Someone told me to look at a tankless heater. I have did a google search and found a number of models . I just do not know anyone that has one and want to know how well they worked and did you like it.

I would appreciate any information I can get.

Thanks again, Paul

Not sure if we're thinking of that same thing or not but what I have is a Superstor 40 gal tank, basicly a heat exchanger set up on a seperate zone from my boiler. Works okay, I would like to have an 80 gal. You need a big boiler to get continous hot water, regardless of what the ad's say. My pumbler calls this a tankless system, makes nosense to me to have a 40 gal tank and call it tankless.

I don't have one but a friend of mine who did said that his worked great unless multiple people tried to get hot water simultaneously, you'd end up with lukewarm at best. He may have had a too small unit for his house size but it's something to check out if you have a large family. Good luck.

Had one in the apartment we rented while I was stationed in Germany in the 80's; worked great.

never was impressed with those things. have two plumbed in series here at my construction trailer for the shower. worked great!!..... for about a year. maybe the hard water we have around here has something to do with the poor performance.

Noritz or Bosch. Should pay for itself in two to three years.

I was looking into one myself,as my coil in my boiler was plugging after some 16 years of service. However the only turnoff for me was the warranty was not so great in my view anyway. One to two years on leaks and one year on everything else. For something that pricy You would think they would offer more.Be a good idea to check out e-opinions.com and consumers report too.Well food for thought anyway..

I installed one in the barn at the sink. Works great...instant hot water. It was a SETS 11kw unit...small but it only does the sink. Took a 50amp breaker at the panel and 8g wire to it. I don't use it in the winter so I don't know how it will work.

I haven't used in early spring yet but will this spring. I just installed it this past August. I live in upstate NY just on the Canadian border so the water this spring coming in will be really cold. It will be interesting how well it heats the water.

In August, the water was at about 70* coming in and it was instantly hot enough to burn your hands.

At this point, I don't regret putting it in even though it was pricey. I didn't want a hot water tank storing hot water all the time and thus the instant heater. I did buy it on EBay and paid 150 + SH....the unit was brand new and if I bought it brand new from a supplier it would have gone close to $500 I guess.

If you plan on a whole house heater...then you'll need a huge KW heater and that'll run even more. \

So...what am I telling you? I have one, I'm happy with it now.

I"ve got a small unit on a shower that I"ve used for a couple of years, and it works great!
My suggestion is to try to determine the quantity of hot water you might need and buy a size big enough to fill those needs. The theory is great, but again, determining quantity is critical. Mine just supplies water for a shower, so it does a great job, don"t have any experience with larger units....

there are several different kinds out there. get the size that you need for the quantity used. have seen 2 in houses that reqire more hot water. some styles can go in your house, some can go in your wall outside. they ussualy require a larger gas line and larger[3/4] water line. check warranty and avaliabilty of parts. some are tough to find. will you be without hot water while your parts are on order? do some checking around. i have put a few in. they do work well.
