Doug, please, please, relate your questions to tractors. At least say you park your Buick next to your TRACTOR, or maybe use it to pull your TRACTOR, or use it to get TRACTOR parts etc. That way we won't get our undies in a wad even though you titled it OFF-TOPIC. After all, we're so nosey we can't help but read it and waste a few precious seconds. Remember the Forum Police are watching.:)

I have heard that the fuel pressure regulator can leak gas into the intake and cause the problem you described. I got that info on the recall I got on my 2000 buick lesabre. It's a simple 20 min. job if it's done in time but not so simple if it happens to be like yours. Sorry to hear about your problem.

Some late 90's GM cars were recalled for replacement of fuel pressure regulators. When it goes bad it can cause the results you described. Thke your VIN to dealer and se if it's on the recall list and go from there. GM might(don't bet on it) might be required to replace the intake as well. If your dealer is no help, send me an email & I can check it for you.Good luck!!

Really need some more information in order to give you an answer, but i'll try a stab at it.

Assuming it's a V-6, the first thing that you'll have to do is replace the intake manifold. Be certain to vacume out the intake ports in the head and the oil gallery so that there's no little plastic parts floating around in there.

Once you get the manifold replaced, then troubleshooting the problem comes next. Were you using ether or starting fluid when it backfired? Has the engine been difficult to start? It could be something as simple as a tune-up is needed. Or, if the engine has high miles, the cam gear or timing chain could be worn out, causing the cam to jump time.

Give us some more information and we'll try to help.

I had a Buick once. And I had a Cockshutt 30. I was going to swap engines. Put the Buick engine in the Cockshutt and the Cockshutt engine in the shop. Buick had a 300ci v8.

I've got a Buick, and a Cockshutt. Must say I've never blown the manifold off the Cockshutt trying to start it. If it had a faster road gear and it didn't rain so much here, I'd park the Buick (before I wreck a bunch of plastic parts) and just drive the co-shoe all the time.
