Every once in a while this tractor spits out a cup or so full of coolant out of the over flow tube. It did it once last fall when hauling beans but didnt really do it again until about 3 weeks ago. Now it does it almost everytime we use the tractor. The tractor had a newly rebuilt head put on about 5 years ago. we put a new rad cap on but it just keeps doing it. Had a neighbour who is a mechanic look at it and he couldnt find anything wrong with it. he tested the thermostat and said it was good then said try a new cap and that didnt change anything. This is our main tractor in the winter and really need to figure this out so any help is appreciated. Thanx Steve

sounds to me like you have a very good water pump.
maybe it is sucking air due to a collapsed bottom rad hose or a restriction in the radiator.watch the bottom hose and have someone rev the motor, the hose should not collapse.

Steve - My old girl's been doing that since almost day 1 , 10,000 hrs ago. Had the dealer totally confused, tried everything he could think of and ended up using a 7000 fan (6 bladed). Basically only does it now when we're puttin' the boots to her, but not above having it happen just when she feels like it.
I just keep the water level above the core and she just keeps on truckin'.

My grandpa bought this tractor almost new only had around a 1000 hours on it. it caught fire about 25 years ago and had to have the engine rebuilt and a bunch of other work done but has been good ever since then. It has only started doing this now. Has us thinking alot. It looks like the rad is fairly dirty inside so might try cleaning that tomorrow. What should i use to clean it? Ill also check the hoses. anymore help would be great. Steve

Steve - Over the years , I've learned to have most of my repairs done by professionals , may have cost more at the time , but really paid off long term. Any rad work , other than external cleaning , I've had done at the local rad shop. Have her boiled out and pressure checked. Those 5000's were one of , if not the BEST tractor Ford ever produced. Mine is just a hair short of 10'000 hrs and was dynode at 84hp when new. Other than routine maintenance, she goes through a water pump every 5 or 6 yrs and would burn up a muffler in about 3 yrs.

can you see bubbles in the radiator when its running,or milky in oil..if so ,may be head gasket.

there is no coolant in the oil and have watched for bubbles but none.
