It was so dark this morning that I burned out two light bulbs before I could get the room lit up. Anyone suppose that larger bulbs would help or should I use a candle to remove a bit of the darkness?

Why not just stay in the dark like some of the rest of us?

You need to get some bigger bulbs. The small 'dark-suckers' fill up too quick. The bigger bulbs hold a lot more dark before they fill up and become useless. Larry

As a long-time denizen of this forum, I hereby declare Johnski's response to be "Most Jermain" of any response of any posting of the year. And I congratulate him (note that my "congratulate" did not contain a "d") on getting the annual award just under the wire, on December 29, 2004. Unfortunately, a trophy will not be forthcoming.

How does a Yuppie's child replace a light bulb?

They just hold it up and the whole world revolves around them.

Well, you got light problems, we got wind problems. We got two of those new fangled wind power setups, to provide power (so we could crank up some light around here). Problem is, we just don't have enough wind to run em both- so guess we'll take one of them down, then things should be better. We might even make enough juice to export a little light, like that feller from Texas (don't they just always have the biggest and the best of everything? I declare.)

You're going to need to install a block heater if you want to run those light bulbs in these temperatures. If you start them cold like this, you'll starve the filament bearings and end up spinning them... Might throw a rod clear through the socket.

I know exactly what you mean, I lost the filiment bearings in a antique candle one time and man you talk about hard to find, still haven't found one, may just have the candle machined and put brass bushings back in, I think this would be ok since I really dont want to use this candle that hard, just in parades and such.
Any better ideas from you guys please let me know as to I'm pretty new to the candle game.

In jest, Walter Squires

I would have to agree with Correct Police and Thurlow. You will kill the value of it by replacing the bearing with a brass bushing. If you could find a Operator/Parts manual. That would help. Course, you ain't said what make or model it is. So, I won't be much help to ya. But, I would check the candle salvage yards. I did a Google serch, but came up with nothing.

Those candles should have babbit bearings and leather seals. Why would anybody ruin a fine antique like that by putting the wrong bearings in? If you can't afford to do it right, DON'T DO IT!

Besides, the brass bearings are a safety hazard. They overheat, and the brass fumes are deadly poison to the Polynesian Spotted Sparrow.

(kidding, for the humor-challenged...)

thurlow, I was unable to get a owners manual for this certain candle, as I said earlier I'm new to the candle game so I,m going to have to depend on you guys for advice and help.
I do not know the make, model or year but if any you kind folks out there have a manual please let me know, I would trade for a original manual or parts book for a fair set of candle holders I have, just needs a little straighting and paint.

Let me guess- the candle holders you want to trade were just used on Sundays by an elderly lady, for the purpose of reading her bible. You can leave out the part about her passing away 30 odd years ago, and since then, they have been stored on the dirt floor of an unheated wood shed.

Use caution in replacing light bulbs with candles. It will work OK with table lamps, but I've found on most ceiling fixtures you get a lot of hot wax dripping down.
You would be better off pre-heating your bulbs before applying full power.
Hope this helps!

Don't let in darkness in the first place. But if you have too, I would put a window on the other side of the room. That way, if it gets too dark, you can open the other window and let a little out.

Where are you at? It started getting light(er) eariler where I live a few days ago, something like Dec 20th or 21st. Think about selling that place and movin' closer to me in Bristol, IN, it will save on bulbs for a few months. LOL.

I gone to fluorescent lighting in my work room. Not as good as daylight but it helps keep the dark at bay untill I can get outside.
