I have been working on a 1943 farmall h I finally got her running I was going to take her for a spin but I had another tractor in the way with a tire off. anyways what distance I could move the tractor it seemed to shift fine except for reverse which seemed to jerk on the right side oppisite bat side. an 5th seemed to grind. tractor moved fine in the other gears. I put the rearend on blocks to grease an to see how freely tires would turn now its locked up. tires will not turn. any suggestions would help thanks glenn

Oh Oh, You have it in two gears. The end of the shifter gets worn and lets it slip out of the slide. You can take the lever out and build it up with weld or i might be able to find you a better one. While you have the lever out you can reach in with a long screwdriver and get all 3 rails centered again.

with it being in 2 gears will the top plate have to come off? this will be my first time doing this procedure. I have a few manuals but they do not cover anything on takeing the shifter out. also thanks for your help Nebraska Cowman.

No the plate wont have to come off you will need to pull the pin out of the shifter by either undoing a bold or you will need to punch the round endcap out with hammer and punch then punch the pin in the shifter out pull shifter out from top, Then uuse a screw driver and gently pry the square pins so that they are all in the out of gear.
