Howdy folks,

Well, it looks like a white Christmas for some of us this year. I just hope that you all aren't having to travel anytime in the next couple of days. If you don't watch or listen to your local weather guys, there's a pretty good looking winter storm brewing. Going to affect a good chunk of Ohio, mid to southern Indiana, southern Illinois, mid to western kentucky, southern missouri, and northern arkansas. Those are the areas right now that have winter storm watches. I figure though as this thing moves Northeast it will affect other areas too like pennsylvania, new york, and on up into the northeast. So if ya gotta travel anytime from late morning on wednesday up into thursday morning these are areas to watch out for. It'll be one of those situations where the further west you are in those places I mentioned the earlier you'll see the bad weather and the earlier you'll see it leave. Areas east will see it later and could see more in the way of sleet and rain and less in the way of snow. Needless to say, take care out there if you're headin over the river and through the woods. Gonna be fun. Oh yeah, the picture is of our '57 420T. I took that one saturday morning down in the woods in what used to be a hillside corn field. It is now good cedar growth and that is where we were hunting for the christmas tree that morning. All the gray color on stuff is frost. Had a heavy frost that morning and it was beautiful. God bless.

Ever see that movie that started the Waltons? Think was called Homecoming or Coming Home, or something like that. Well, that'll be me on Christmas Eve, even if it kills me to get home to Bristol, IN. from Joliet, IL. That's a trip that I make very week, and on a good day is two and a half hours one way, has taken me five. Just as was about to leave at about 5:30 this last Sunday, someone called and said "LaPorte's getting 20+ inches on the tollroad right now". I didn't want to hear that. Then the tollroad lady told me the same thing. I didn't want to hear that either, so jumped off at SouthBend, and headed down to Plymouth, and over on Rt30 towards Joliet. Still got nailed by lake effect snow well south of LaPorte, but made it into Joliet around 10:00. 4.5 hours is better than my record of 5 for a 2.5 hour drive. Now weather guy's saying another 8" for LaPorte area tomorrow, and more Thursday night. I don't care if I have to drive to Georgia to get to Indiana from Illinois, I'm not going to miss Christmas with my family. And for a guy whom rarely drinks, I'm gonna have a beer or few with my family on the snowy tractor, because I can and will - I can taste them now, and they taste great too!

And nice pictures of the Deere. I've got similar of mine covered with snow on Thanksgiving. If I knew how to post pictures, I would. Those Amish guys swear as of today are gonna start on the new barn next Monday, but have been hearing Monday, Monday, Monday for weeks and months now. They're good, they just don't set any speed records, them guys. Merry Christmas to you Old Fashioned, and to all.

Mark

I like the look of fresh snow, like to walk or drive in it, but the amount of salt they put on the roads around here hurts, I have spent hours and $$$ combating rust as a result. I hate salt, wouldn't use any if I had my way. Sand and slow down. Then vehicles would last for years and years like they do where a friend lives in western Virginia, and he says to get a really good one go 50 mi. south to N. Carolina or Tenn. I am in R.I. Will take summer any time, thanks.

The say we might get as much as 8" here in Springfield, MO tonight and tommorow.
When I was 12 that sounded like a lot of fun but now that I'm 46, well you know....

I'm 42 and 8" of snow makes me feel like I'm 12 again. Hopefully we'll get a lot, I love the stuff. I'll hook up the little tractor and pull the kids around on a toboggan.

Hey Old, isn't this the first day of winter? Sounds like bad weather up your way. Down here in the South it is supposed to get up to around seventy (70) today. I don't think I could handle as much of the cold weather that you guys have. Have a Merry Christmas.

Hi ol' Pard,

LOL! Your weather forecasting reminds me of all of the national services.

It just isn't weather until it crosses that Mississippi river. Everyone knows that there is no weather in the western portion of the country.

Blizzard you say? Naw, not until it reaches the east coast :>)

No weather west of the miss? HAW! Some where I have a picture from the January 49 little storm...Yes I was there. Picture is an old Allis bulldozer on a snow bank. Right beside it is the power tranformer...the power pole top is about 3 foot high. BTW: wind in Bolder Co yesterday hit an official 94 MPH.

Hi Ken,

Yes Sir, remember that one well even though I was just a child. That was the grandpa of all blizzards.

We got caught out in the darned thing when she pulled in that first afternoon and had to walk 1/2 mile across a field to get home. If it had been any further, it would have wiped out the whole darned family. Froze my mom's hands and feet real bad.
