An old friend has priced his 1050 with 700, that's right, seven hundred hours to me for $6500. Seems his father is ill, and he needs a bigger tractor so unless the tractor sells by tommorrow he will trade with the local John Deere dealer. I was there when he brought the tractor home back in 87 and it's in excellent condition as it's been kept inside.

I'm a massey guy and haven't been keeping up with Deere prices, what's this tractor bringing around the country? I've posted this in the John deere forum as well, as I have to act fast if I want the tractor.

I think that the JD 1050 is about 37 HP and I believe it is turbocharged. If it's in as good a shape as you say it is, I think $6500 is a bargain if you can use that kind of tractor. The dealer will try to get $10K for it.

That is a real nice tractor, Bill.

My dad has a 950, and the 1050 has more hp, 33hp if I remember correctly at the pto.

I think the 950 is 25.
I remember from when me & my dad bought his in 87.

They have a 3cyl Yanmar diesel, and came in either 2wd or 4wd.

They are a nice, handy compact utility and are good for light use. My dad uses it with a belly mower in the summer and blows snow with it in the winter. He babies it and it has 950 hours on it. I would imagine that a 700 hr tractor would be almost perfect.

That tractor is probably worth around $8500 or so.
If you need a small tractor, it would be a good one. The hydraulics are not all that responsive, many dealers recommended removing the filter to get better response but I think you are asking for trouble going that route.

Good luck either way...

forgot to mention... in reply to Brian in NY, 12-09-2004 11:29:33
the $8500 figure is for a 2wd with average hours...I would think the 4wd would be worth at least another $1000 and the low hours adds value...but not as quantifiable.

Bill,

It doesn't matter what they are bringing elsewhere.

At 700 original hours, and if you can use the thing, get it bought before he changes his mind; that's as good as a new tractor yet!

Allan
