Thanks for your quick and helpful advice Delta Bob. I shall check everything out tomorrow, but please explain what"short the solenoidwith a screwdriver" means. I am not familiar with this technique. Please let me know exactly what I have to do with the screwdriver. Thanks!!!

What he means is to bridge the small terminal on the solenoid, often labeled "S" (for "start") to the large stud on the solenoid fed by battery power.

This is a good way to win the Darwin Award. If you MUST do it, have someone on the seat that knows how to operate the tractor, and have them keep the clutch depressed, and the brakes "ON" as an added measure of safety so you don't run over yourself!

Probably more people have been killed by a tractor starting in gear than about any other tractor related death.

Yeah, I know, the tractor is in neutral, and the gun wasn't loaded!

I have had to use this method a few times. I know it is dangerous, but to mimimize risk, I put both gear levers in neutral. Then I jump terminals to spin engine over with Shutoff knob pulled OUT (Off position) That assures me tractor is not in gear. Then I push knob in & start. Even using this procedure, it is not the smartest thing to do..... Regards, Davis
