Allan,

This is a pic of the six inches of snow we received the day before T-Day. This will be the view from our house if we can ever afford to build one. Dang building costs keep screwing up our plans.

I guess it all depends on your system of measurement. Some folks think (--) that's 6 inches, others think (----- ) that's six inches.

Last year about this time after 4 days of snow. I get to look forward to keeping the driveway clear again this winter. I wish you luck on your place just jump in and do it the costs keep going up beleive me. I built both these buildings myself including slabs for less then $10,000.00 I bet I could not repeat it now for sure. Winter is a pretty time of the year!! Mark H.

Mark,

Where did all that snow come from, I thought you lived in Texas?

Our snow was gone within 36 hours, but it looks like we are gonna get hit again tonight. I ordered a set of chains for the 4x4 but they won't be in until Thursday. I just might have to call in sick tomorrow.

Nice lookin barn by the way.

I live in Eastern Washington at the 2,800 ft level. That was last Decembers snow. It looks like we get ours this week if the weather man is right?! I may have built them for that but the Tax Man said they are worth 50 grand now and that is what I get taxed for them now! I argued but they said it is not what you built them for but what it would cost to have someone else do it? I got the chains for the tractor in the shop but don't use them with the 4X4 my tires are siped and it helps alot. I just wait for the plow to go thru. I do chain up the bus when it gets like this picture because it is 2 wheel drive and also when the ice is under it. Mark H.

That is realy unfair big time! You can plan for some problems and slow times but how in the world do you prepare for that?? It seems they just love to stick it to anyone tring to get ahead. If you don't care about your place they don't tax you and you still get to use all the things taxes pay for plus more! Mark H.

Hey Mark , where do you keep that water tender during these cold snowy days ? I don't see any Ns around that plantation either . They reassessed my area too & upped my dump at 48,000.00 . It's in such dire need of repairs that I appealled it & asked them to please buy it for that . Didn't get anywhere . Now to keep from loosing it in sherriffs sale someday . my area's getting to be a ghost town because they want it to be an historical tourist area . Have a nice warm winter . Ken C

I drained the Tender and put 5 gals of RV Antifreeze in the pumps and air valves incase a little water was left. Then I coverd the truck with tarps over boards sitting on top to allow air under them. I charge the battrys once in a while and run the engine till warm. I have Anti Gel additive in the diesil fuel so it will start easy during the winter. I don't have any Ns now just my Massey 135 to take care of the place with. I allmost lost my place once that way where I used to live. It got worth so much the taxes went thru the roof so I sold it and paid off my bills and built this place. Now with out a morgage I can at least work at home and not worry so much. If I could only figure how to get rid of the taxes it would be great! I do get a big tax break on the place when I hit 60 in 7 years so I guess I have something to look forward to then. Mark H.

Hey Dug, that is a beatiful picture, you need to quit your day job and start taking pictures for postcards...LOL. Seriously, I know the feeling about the weather and the costs screwing up building plans. No snow down here in NC, but after three weeks of dry weather I got footings dug for a extension on my shop, and before I could get any concrete poured in it rained, then rained again, and now is supposed to start again tomorrow sometime. Thing is even if I bailed it out the ground is too wet to get a truck in to it. Well, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and remember the old saying, "Rome wasn't built in a day"....

Hey old,

You know you only missed this one by about 60 miles. I live straight west of Kansas City and just caught the tip of it. The next one is yours!

Have a good one,

Where are you located Dug? Sounds like your only 100 miles or less from me. I'm located up in the Seneca/Marysville area. Didn't get a lot of snow here. Maybe 2-3 inches. Don

Hi Don,

I am 9 miles south of Lawrence. We were only supposed to get a "dustung" but the weather guessers were a little off. Luckily it did melt within 36 hours, that's the kind of snow I like. Look at it for a while, then make it go away.

Hey Dug,
I feel your pain! I started a pole barn project a couple months ago... prices keep going up, one delay after another... finally got on a roll, got all my posts in the ground (40 of 'em), finally got the slab poured for the floor (had 50 & 60 degree weather up until about a week ago) and was FINALLY ready to start the easy part... the actual building of the barn. Then, the durn canadians decided to send a bumper crop of their cold air & snow our way... we've had nothing but DEEP snow, strong winds and below zero temps & wind chills. I go out every day and admire the "crop" of posts I planted. Sure hope I can get back to work soon!!! Regards, DL

DL,

You're right, If it aint weather, it building costs. When the weather clears up and costs begin to come down, the darn interest rates will go sky high. A fella just can't win!

Note: in the above post, I referred to our northern neighbors (in a joking manner) by typing durn (DURN) as in darn, darned, dang, etc... unfortunately, the font makes it look as if I typed DUM, which I did not intend (that would be mis-spelled anyways, right?) please, before anyone takes offense, accept this explanation of my feeble attempt at humor... (you can KEEP your cold weather though)

Good thing y"all dont live around Central City NE. Ny grand nephew says they have 51 inches of snow and it is hard to walk because it is up to his knees. His grandma says they had a good 6 inches.
