I have a Ford 4400 and the control valve that works the loader leaks in the valve and lets the loader leak down, can this valve be fixed or do I have to replace it. Thought abot replacing it with one of those cross valves like they put on loaders. Would this work? Would it be a open center system? Thanks

You should have two lift cyls. on that loader and you have to check each cyl. by it self becouse the barrel ends are tee together and the rod ends are tee together. Most loaders leaking down are caused by one or both cyls. But you could have a problem in the valve do you know if you have lift checks and circut relief valves eather one could be the problem. If you have a circut relief that is most likely the problem eather the valve is weak or the o rings that seal the valve inside Don

MOST hydraulic valves have "O" rings or other seals in them near the outside of the spools, to prevent external oil leaks.

The actual sealing of the valve spool to the case in the high pressure area is made by the precision fit of the spool in the cast iron valve body, and if a problem has developed here, replacing the seals will typically have no effect on the load leaking down.

Of course, there MAY be exceptions. It wouldn't hurt to have a hydraulic shop look at it before scrapping it.

Vern About the only thing you can do to repair the valve is to replace the O rings in the valve. That is if one can find the right ones. I replaced the valve on my 4000 with a Greshen open spool valve. Had to rework the plumbing somewhat but worked just fine. If I had to do it again I would take the valve off then take it to a hyd place and match it as close as you could to the replacement valve. Could save some revamping.

are you sure it is not the cylinder leaking?

We put a cut off valve in the line on the loader and then raised it up and then cut off the oil and the loader would stay up so that should eliminate the cylinder and then open the valve and then the loader would leak down. Thanks
