McCulloch dies under load

I have a 16" McCulloch that will run for a little while, but then either die on idle or I have to be very careful when cutting because it will die under load. The plug threads are also saturated with oil when I pull it out.
I rebuilt the carb and put a new plug in it.
Anybody have recommendations on what to check next?
Thanks.

I had the same thing happen to my saw. It took me 60.00 to find out the problem was a leaking fuel line.

Carbureators have an idle circuit and a high speed circuit. The names are deceptive. The engine runs at high speed with no load through the idle jets. When the load hits the engine runs through the high speed jet. The high speed jet is probably stopped up. Other possibility is a hole in the fuel line.

Last year one of my saws would start and idle well but as sone as I would try and cut it would stall. I drilled a small hole in the gas tank vent and that cured it. I later repaced the vent.

I'm assuming your air filter is clean. Right? This would cause the saw to act like the choke was on. I just spray mine with brake cleaner or either and blow out with air.Good luck and let us know.
Dan.

Might also have coil breaking down, doubt it, but it is another thing to check.

What did you set the carb needles at? Should be 1 1/2 turns from seating. Sounds as though you are not getting enough fuel to run loaded. Also check to make sure you do not ahve an intake leak. You did not say what saw you have. if it has primer, you could have a primer leaking and need replaced. check all this out and let me know, I will gone for a couple of days, but I will answer back Monday if you leave a post that this did not help.

have you checked the screen on the carb to see if its clogged,if it is ,take it out and hold over a propane flame to burn out the carbon then put it back in.. lucas

I'm not familiar with that. I replaced 2 "square" rubber gaskets on the carb, one with the round metal disk, and blew out all the ports.
Did I not take it far enough apart?

Those are the carb diaphragms and gaskets. Did you replace them in the order they came off? Did you check the needle valve and inlet lever? The lever needs to set flush with the carb body or else it will flood. It sounds to me that its flooding so you might want to check out the carb again. What model of carb do you have? Have a look at this site it will help you figure it out.

You need to get in the gas tank (if you haven't allready)with a hooked piece of baling wire and fish around for the fuel line and filter. (if applicable)

Pull the filter out of the tank and replace with a new one.
