As stated below, the 3208 was not one of Cat's better ideas. The 6.9 you have is probably more reliable. A 3116 Cat might make an interesting swap or a 6BT5.9 cummins. I also know a guy that put a Hino engine in an F250. That was just a pure widow maker, but it worked good. If you decide to convert, I would love to hear the story after, and see some pics. Good luck.

I had the chance to look at a 3/4 or 1 ton Ford with a 3208 cat in it. This was a manual trans model without AC. The engine compartment was very very full. No idea how well it worked, or how the front end carried that engine. I suspect the little 5.9 Cummins would be a more parctical swap.

What CAT engine were you thinking of? I believe CAT bought Perkins, and many of CAT'S smaller engines are now Perkins. It certainly could be done, but I'd imagine Cummins engines into Fords are more common. Have you checked out:

The 3208 is a bottom line engine from Cat. That engine has been used in several applications ranging from White four wheel drive tractors to light trucks, From what we have seen they don't last more then 2500 hours then must be rebuilt. They were nick-named sewing machine engines by Cat mechanics. No lugging power, etc.just didn't live up to Cat's reputation.
