How much and how hard is it to find and install power steering for a Ford 3000 utility yourself? The dealer says it is a newer model w/ 3 cyl gas. He has a 3000 for $4000 w/ and $3500 without.

Nice prices if the units are in good shape. I have both and find that the manual steering is not all that bad and it helps you stay in shape like Ultradog mentioned.

Additionally, if you are going to primarily use it with 3 pt implements hooked on, especially a mower, the load back there helps to float the front end and makes it easier to steer.

And then there is the thing about "if it ain't broke don't fix it" so iffin "it ain't there" (ps) it can't break so's it'll never need fixin. Rebuilt PS pumps are over $400. Get your attention?

One more thing. PS allows you to hold the wheel steady. On rough terrain, the front wheels are bouncing and moving all over the place. With manual steering, the wheel goes with the flow following the movement of the tires as you relax your grip and let it move back and forth.

What do you think the stress on your front end members is with either? I'm here to tell you the manual front end will probably do a 2:1 on outlasting the PS one....Drag links and tie rods aren't cheap either....like $85 or so each.

I looked in to putting PS on my 2000 earlier this year. Best price I could find was about $2000. That was for some used parts and some new.
Decieded to start doing some push-ups instead...
The deal you quote, that is if the tractor isn"t all beat up and worn out, sounds like a very good deal to me.
I paid more than $4000 for mine.
